Halp! Any suggestions to make growing a haircut out easier?
I am female; I have had relatively short hair (5-6 inches all over) for quite a while and the style is a bit labor-intensive. I'm tired of toiling over my hair and want to grow it to shoulder length or a bit longer so I can twist it into an "updo" quickly.

But now, alas, it's in the growing out stage. Aside from extensions, which I don't want to do, any ideas? Funny or serious? :hi:

1. Wigs?
Think of the fun you could have - a different hair color or style every day!

2. I would require a pink wig. And with summer coming up, maybe not such a 'hot' idea
:)

6. When my sister was going to graduate school and substitute teaching
She got a few wigs to wear. She'd get calls at 6 AM needing her to report as a substitute at 7:30 with no time to do anything with her hair, so slipping on a wig was the easy way out. She could wear a different hair style or color with no expense of a beauty salon. It saved her so much time and money.

But yeah, they can be hot. I like struggle4progress ideas - just go with the oddness of the hair growing out until it is long enough to really work with. That would be more fun!

4. Give it lots of water and sunlight
Do something different with it every few days until then. Slick it down with gel one day; put a comb in it another; dye it fluorescent green sometime; put it into little tiny curls some other time; have somebody do it in cornrows and see how that works ...

7. hasn't been much sunlight around here this winter!
But I do drink a lot of water (if that's what you mean) and get a fair amount of sleep at night... giving it plenty of time to grow :D

I do curl it a lot - I can't really wear it straight b/c the cut is so many different lengths, I look like I got eaten by one of those vacuum haircut thingies. But the problem is (should have said earlier) I *must* wash it every day or else it looks hideously greasy. Which means I have to re-do my 'do' every day.

11. That would be a Flobee.
My neighbor used to have one in his garage and do his hair every couple of weeks with it.

8. hair accessories or clip in hair extensions
Dresses it up so it looks less like you just crawled out of bed and helps to keep those not quite long enough yet wisps out of your face. Bangs are the most annoying to try to grow out when they are in the stage where they're long enough to constantly be in your eyes yet not long enough to pin back. There's all kinds of pretty or funky hair do-dads out these days and most even have diagrams showing various ways to use them.

You can also get clip in hair extensions that look amazingly real and come in an enormous range of colors so matching them to your color looks perfect. I used to work with two women that used them and had NO idea it wasn't their real hair until one day they were in a rush and came in late so they had to clip in their hair extensions in the dressing room. I was completely shocked. Even in the bright fluorescent lighting of the dressing room I never had any idea in the world that it wasn't their real hair all along. The real human hair can be a bit pricey especially if you want really long ones, but they used cheap synthetic hair extensions that still looked and moved like it was their real hair and they could wear it straight or curl it with heat appliances with no problem. Why oh why did these not exist years ago when I was growing out my hair!!!

Here's a video I found that shows what they look like, how the clips work and the best way to clip them in...

13. Growing your hair out is called "recession hair".
I should know! :D

Get a haircut that is shorter in the back and longer in the front. By the time the front part of your hairline catches up with the back, it'll finally be time for a haircut.

The most vigorous hair growth is on the back of the head. You know it's true because that is where balding men keep their hair.
