Cat people, do you kitties go out when it snows?
We have two cats, one is a homebody and likes to stay inside most of the time and will not go out when it rains. Our other kitty prefers to hang outside and does not mind going out in light rain. Dingo does not seem to mind walking through, or standing in rain puddles. I wonder what he would think of snow..

Do your cats hang out in the snow?

3. Do their feet "punch" through the snow or do they sink in it?
My outside cat likes to find an place to curl up and nap. Will a cat sit or lay in snow?

14. Depends on how frozen the snow is.
My cats will find a dry spot somewhere. Our shepherd used to take naps in snowstorms.

2. Once!
and that was it.
She then tried going to each door thinking there would not be snow outside one of them.
Now, she looks out the open door, snaps around and goes back to sleep.

4. In answer to your question...
As kittens.

These days, however, this is the more common attitude.

6. Those are some nice photos. The cats sometimes will go out
and play in the snow and enjoy it.
Probably til they get cold.

7. Yes, but we have two Maine Coon mixes.
They have heavy, waterproof winter coats, and huge paws with fur between the toes. They're built for that kind of weather.

We've had fun with them in the backyard throwing snowballs for them to chase.

8. Right now
he's an inside boy with outside aspirations. He's a bit disgusted because he prefers to do his "business" outdoors & there's no dirt to be found. We've got about 2 feet of snow & no place to go.
The sun is out & it's comparatively warm so he's nosing around a bit & checking in with his cat friends.

in the snow, he acts more like a prissy ballerina.

12. I know of one cat who, offered the chance to go outside and play in the snow,
Edited on Sat Feb-05-11 07:01 PM by The Velveteen Ocelot
just stood in the doorway and hissed.

My cat Milo did experience snow briefly. He tried to put no more than two of his paws in the snow at a time, and shook them off after each step. His attitude seemed to be: Do Not Want.

16. I fed a kitten of mine vanilla ice cream one day. I then caught her looking outside at the snow.
She had never been outside before and I thought for a second..maybe she thinks they are the same thing.

20. I've watched the local raccoons charge our kitties
I know our cats are very afraid of them. The local raccoons will go out of their way to run our cats off when they cruise through the neighborhood.

love them too much to be worried sick every time they went out..

too many cats get tortured by mean kids and dogs....or get run over by cars..or get into poisons people leave around.

I also would not want them getting into fights with other cats, or marauding the neighborhood fauna..or shitting in people's flower beds.

23. Mine used to, but prefers not to now.
She started wimping out about it around 5 or 6 years ago. She just had her 19th birthday, so I suppose she's earned the right to do as she pleases. Not that I could ever 'make' her do anything before. ;-)

It's hard to get her stay in during the summer months though.

25. Yup. All of the barn cats are perfectly comfortable with it. My house cat loves it too.
Last night, my husband had to go fetch him from the barn at midnight because he refused to come in with me at 6 after finishing chores. The hot water heater in the feed room has been outfitted with a cat bed on top that the cats LOVE to claim as the favored sleeping spot. And my house cat finally got a turn up there. I tried to drag him off of it and he braced himself with all four paws refusing to budge. He really, really wants to be a barn cat, I think he likes the activity and all the other animals and people. Our house is too boring for him.

And snow is just another medium in which to play and frolic with the "tough guys" at the barn.

28. It never snows enough here to accumulate but he went out in the rain a little while ago
He has to since he refuses to "go" inside. As far as I know he has not used a litter box since he was big enough to go outside.

29. I don't think my cat likes you...
or is it me he doesn't like much.

Your question made me curious. So I dumped the indoor cat out in the snow to see how he acted. He was so very unimpressed. I should have had a camera (damn). The look on his face was true disbelief. Then he tried to head to the door---step, foot downs down through the snow, stop. Meeeeeoooowwww!!!!!

I took him right back in. So in answer to your question----no, my cat certainly does NOT go out when it snows.

I'm going to have to search YouTube for cat/snow videos. Well hopefully your cat is on the no fly list, and can't reach me.

31. One is too scared to go near the cold door, let alone go out...
Mr. Mickey, on the other hand likes to be carried whilst I get the paper. He gets to sniff the air, then go back in front of the heating grate where he reins as warm air fluffs up his belly hairs.
