Free used paint
Free Latex Interior Paints - used (Troy, MO)
Date: 2011-01-31, 12:58PM CST
Reply to: sale-urug6-2190118112@craigslist.org

I have several gallons of used interior paint in various colors that I would like to give away to someone who has a use for it - maybe a school theatre department, etc.

Some containers have more paint in them than others.

I am even willing to drop the paint off myself to a willing taker (drop-off limited to Lincoln, St. Charles and St. Louis County).

Serious resonses only please.

3. Recycle Stores
Habitat for Humanity runs stores, called ReCycle, that will accept donations like this and resell the donation.

Here's a link to its stores in Michigan,http://www.habitat.org/cd/env/restore_detail.aspx?place=59

So if someone doesn't respond, perhaps you can donate the paint to the nearest ReCycle store.

5. If your city has an anti graffiti crew, they usually take it.
They paint over the graffiti around the city and need any paid of all different colors, as they try to match the original wall or fence color.

7. Is there a Freecycle in your area? Freecycle is like craigslist, except
everything is free.

Their site:

I've been able to rid of perfectly good stuff that I had no use for. I love people being able to use something I have, and best of all, taking it out of the house.

13. Yeah, I spent more than a decade working in Household Hazardous Waste (HHW)
Edited on Tue Feb-01-11 05:16 PM by eyepaddle
and we used to have to go through all the stuff people would bring and, if it was still good put it in the "re-use" room--where it was given away for free.

Many's the time we commented on how that paint had never really been "used!"

Oh yeah, here's a tip for anybody else reading this post: "free" is synomous with "fucking garbage." Don't ever, ever, ever, EVER take free paint ("used" or otherwise) from just some random person, or especially an estate sale/yard sale. I saw WAAYYYYYYYYY too many people show up with pickup truck loads of what they thought was a complete deal only to find it was no good due to age and improper storage. Most states will not let businesses (like realtors) drop off waste as HHW--they have to pay the going rate (think about $65/hour, plus 98 cents a pound) to a management company to get rid of it properly.

So they give it away for "free" to some sucker who gets to bring it in to a facility on their own time and own dime.

If you want to find free paint/stain or other household chemicals check with your county's environmental services board and they can tell you where the nearest HHW drop-off and re-use facility is. That stuff has been checked and will be free of any potential legal liability for future disposal--like if you only needed two and half gallons instead of the three you took--you can bring in the rest without hassle.

Compared to the guy who took a bunch of "free" pesticides from a bankrupt ditributer only to find he couldn't legally sell them, and attempted to bring them in as HHW. The county was a little suspicious about why he had a few tons of identically labelled bug spray if he hadn't planned on selling it, so they did a little investigation and charged him.

TO SUM UP: Household chemicals--buy only hwat you need, use what you buy, and propely dispose of what you can't use--while making sure you are not breaking any laws. IOW Just take it to a Household Hazardous Waste facility or event.
