Boxer question advice please... My angus is 8 months old
seems very healthy ...normal activity, very active

but he drinks a lot and sometimes he pukes

I think he just drinks too much too fast and gets full and burps it up

but want to make sure there is no underlying cause

Any thoughts?

1. Don't have a Boxer, but....
...I have a 9-month-old Dachshund. A few months after we got her she started having dry heaves, mostly in the middle of the night. We figured that she was chewing on her bedding and was getting fuzzies in her throat, no big deal. We mentioned it to the vet, who thought it was no big deal too, but to keep an eye on it. Well, the overnight heaving then gave way to unexpected-during-the-day heaves, and they were becoming productive. After Christmas she had a particularly bad bout where she threw up mainly bile. Back to the vet, who took X-rays of her digestive tract. It turns out that her esophagus is a little narrower than usual, which may be causing some sort of reflux, or inability to fully digest food at times. He prescribed an anti-nausea drug along with an indigestion pill, which we break into quarters and give her twice a day. That has helped greatly. Only very occasionally does she get the upset tummy, and when she does she gives us enough warning that we can take her someplace to cut down on the mess, should there be any (there really hasn't, thank God). The vet did say that if it continued the next step would be endoscopy, which I hope does not happen.

(And, with her being a Dachshund, we have to watch when she's outside that she doesn't pick up and eat stuff that's not good for her.)

Long story short, by all means take her to the vet just to get things ruled out -- and for your peace of mind if nothing else. All it may be is a case of acid reflux or some such, or perhaps like you said he just drinks too much all at once and his tummy just can't handle it. If he appears well and isn't losing weight, it may not be anything to worry about at all.

It's worrisome, that's for sure. Good luck.

2. Thank you. He is gaining weight so I guess he just eats and drinks too fast
we are going to not feed him after 8 pm and maybe regulate when he eats to see if that helps

maybe it will make him eat faster tho

he plays all the time, he is not lethargic his coat is beautiful and he is happy. I guess I just shouldn't worry so much

3. I've had three Boxers..
I currently have two. One of mine drinks so much water that it's mouth gets "overloaded" with water. Between the overloading and burping she'll occasionally bring some up. My other one, gets heartburn--according to the vet-- and will also do "wet burps" which actually makes her feel better.

I was concerned with Diabetes with the one that drinks so much, but she's fine. She just drinks a lot. Though she is bordering on a low thyroid, I have to have her rechecked this year.

Unless she's always puking, or not eating, I wouldn't worry too much. Maybe the next time you have to go to the vet, bring it up.

Boxers are great!

4. he is SO fun
he loves to play hid and seek but when he is tired, he wants to be a lap dog. It was fine when he was 15 lbs but now at 65 lbs it is a little heavy :)

5. My bad..
I called him a she. For some reason I read the name as "Agnes" weird. My Izzie is like that, she's about 100lbs but thinks she can sit on your lap. If I have the recliner back, she'll climb up and sit on me. The feeling in my legs goes very quickly. LOL. Sugar is about 60lbs and a sweetie.

Izzie is almost 5 and Sugar is almost 7.

6. You can get divided dog bowls that make them eat more slowly.
It might work for water, too.

You can also give him ice cubes instead of water sometimes. They usually love crunching them.
