What Do You Think of This Actor As The Next James Bond?

Daniel Craig is under contract for 2 more films, and I don't see him doing any more than those.

Idris Elba could fit the bill. He's British. He's a fantastic actor, and if you saw him in the BBC series, Luther, then you know that he can do the role.

What do you think?

1. Yummy!
I missed Luther. I didn't want to start half way through, so I waited until they showed them all in a row- missed that too. Wonder if it's on Netflix yet...

2. He'll always be Stringer to me, but...

I think he could pull it off.

They'd have to get a car that would fit him. He's considerably bigger and taller than Daniel Craig.

6. Meaning, white guy with dark hair and a lock like a comma over his brow?
I think Brosnan is the only one who fit that description.

7. Has this already been floated elsewhere?
Seems like an natural move. He's British, he's a rising star, and obviously picking him would generate publicity/interest for a franchise that's expected to re-boot every now and then.

9. I suspect regardless of the actor's talent, casting an iconic white character with a black actor....
would be generally perceived as a gimmick, or at best "trying to make a statement," either which way would tend to undermine sales. The chances of that happening are less than slim when you consider that Bond movies exist to make money. Idris kicked ass in The Losers and I don't doubt he's headed toward serious stardom. But perhaps a different franchise.

10. I agree
I think it would be received poorly by the majority of fans of the franchise, and given the loyalty those fans have shown, I doubt any film producer would invest the cost to make one of those blockbuster films and risk losing some of the audience. The producers almost scoffed Craig because he is blond and a little rough looking. I just don't think the money people would do it.

On a side note, Idris Elba is amazing. My wife has a huge crush on him and is close to adding him to her "list" of celebs. He is a good looking man with great acting chops. I think he will go far in the business. I loved him in The Losers. He is playing Heimdall (guardian of the Rainbow Bridge in Thor, for all you fans of Asgard.)

11. I don't remember a big outcry when Judi Dench became the new M.
I think if the actor is respected enough there wouldn't be a huge backlash for casting against ethnic type.

The final say, of course, rests with Cubby Broccoli's kids.

There's certainly a lot of pressure to maintain the franchise as a well-oiled money machine and not rock any boats, but I think the recent casting of Craig and turning over "Quantum of Solace" to Marc Forster show that the producers are willing to take artistic risks.

16. I disagree...maybe that sentiment lingers here in the US....but elsewhere

He has already been cast as Thor...a Norse God..a Scandinavian icon

Colin Salmon is already the first black British actor to be cast in the Bond Movies..so not so far fetched..he was also considered for the role of Bond

18. He wasn't cast *as* Thor. He was cast in "Thor".
His character is based on a different Norse diety, Heimdallr.

Loved him in The Wire. Speaking of which, it's about time my brother finishes up with that and gives me my discs back.

He's a damn fine actor. I think he'd be a great Bond.

Owen was the OBVIOUS choice.
