Just read a bunch of "The Walking Dead" graphic novels (spoilers)
you ain't seen nothing yet if you've only watched the TV series and if they hold fairly true to the graphic novels. After they leave Atlanta, it really picks up in terms of intensity, tragedy & shocking deaths. And, it's already been pretty intense.

(I'm at the point where not long after Michonne shows up at the prison)

But, other than Shane still being alive and the sidetrip to the CDC, the TV series has been fairly true to the published version: Jim was bitten & left to die, Amy died from a surprise zombie bite, Dale is an older guy who lost his wife and had the RV; Glen was a pizza delivery guy; Morgan & Duane helped Rick back in Rick's hometown; Shane had an affair with Rick's wife... however, I think Carl is a bit older in the TV series.
