I need happy music please. I am so damned depressed. It's my
late father's birthday. I'm short one cat. And the world is going to hell in a hand-basket.

I've been listening to the Dead's "Box of Rain" over and over. Got any other suggestions for me?

queue up "Ripple," and given your description of the direction of the world, "Hell in a Bucket" too!

Staying in the oldies zone, mebbe some Cat Stevens? "Peace Train", "Morning Has Broken", "Moon Shadow"

Then there are the Beatles, especially the earliest stuff.

Some Cat:

3. I understand, I've certainly been in a similar pair of shoes.
But I think, maybe I'd be inclined to put on some sad tunes instead and just go ahead and grieve.

24. I very much enjoy Tull too.
It must have been great to see him live.

Some really good suggestions already here from others, and for some reason my mind is drawing a blank... but maybe you could try some of the traditional Christmas tunes to get into the spirit of the season? It might help take your mind off of all these sad events in your life.

I'm so sorry GPV. You've definitely been taking more then your fair share of hits as of late... Sending prayers and good vibes your way for what it's worth...

11. This makes me happy.
This is a German rockabilly trio tearing it up for some very dour German art fans. Electric guitar picked well, slappin' upright bass and a even a very rare upright cocktail drum kit.

If you don't like German rockabilly trios, cocktail drum kits, dour Germans or art exhibits...dont' bother.

14. Sorry you're so sad...I don't know your musical tastes, but here are a few happy ones
off the top of my head.....I hope you enjoy at least some of them...1. Everything is Coming Our Way -Santana
2. Puddin'n'Tain-The Alley Cats (just a silly, but happy little song from the early 60's)
3. Walking on Sunshine-Katrina and the Waves ( to me, one of the sunniest, happiest songs ever)
4. Crackerbox Palace-George Harrison
5. See below...

And last but DEFINITELY NOT least...Maybe not carefree and happy like the others above, but ....The Beachboys; a beautiful, spiritually uplifting song called Long Promised Road

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_nx0g_lUhiQ

So hard to answer future's riddle
When ahead is seeming so far behind
So hard to laugh a child-like giggle
When the tears start to torture my mind
So hard to shed the life of before
To let my soul automatically soar

But I hit hard at the battle that's confronting me, yeah
Knock down all the roaddblocks a-stumbling me
Throw off all the shackles that are binding me down

Sew up the wounds of evolution
And the now starts to get in my way
So what if life's a revelation
If the mind speaks of only today
So real, the pain growing in my soul
Of climbing up to reality's goal

But I hit hard at the battle that's confronting me, yeah
Knock down all the roaddblocks a-stumbling me
Throw off all the shackles that are binding me down

Long promised road
Trail starts at dawn
Carries on to the season's ending
Long promised road
Flows to the source, gentle force, never ending, never ending

So hard to lift the jeweled sceptre
When the weight turns a smile to a frown

So hard to drink of passion nectar
When the taste of life's holding me down
So hard to plant the seed of reform
To set my sights on defeating the storm

So I hit hard at the battle that's confronting me, yeah
Knock down all the roaddblocks a-stumbling me
Throw off all the shackles that are binding me down

20. "Good Times Round The Bend"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJt2--HapHI

Gonna pick myself up off the ground
When that old feeling comes around again
I've had enough of feeling down
There's something I've lost that must be found again

chorus:
Sometimes it seems like such a hard life
But there's good times around the bend
The rollercoaster's got to roll to the bottom
If you want to climb to the top again

Driving down the highway in the rain
Look out of my window and see that southbound train
It's headlights still shining in my brain
Stayed right alongside me just to ease my pain
chorus

Well the snow is gone and the springtime's here
And the rivers song is buzzing in my ears
Sit and watch the treetops sway
Here comes a breeze to blow my cares away
chorus

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3N8RiTG-ELI

Wake up, put your shoes on
Take a breath of the northern air
And rub those eyes
Genuflect beneath the starry skies

Before you climb the mountain
First the foothills must appear
Step high and light
And take up your staff and shining armor

(Chin up, chin up)
You don't really have a problem
(Chin up, chin up)
In your hour of despair

And smile when you're down and out
(Find something inside you)
Smile when you're down and out
(Find something inside you)

The stars on the horizon
Stretch as far as the eyes can see
They represent the souls of those like you and me

And smile when you're down and out
(Find something inside you)
Smile when you're down and out
(Find something inside you)

(Chin up, chin up)
You don't really have a problem
(Chin up, chin up)
In your hour of despair

And smile when you're down and out
(Find something inside you)
Smile when you're down and out
(Find something inside you)
