The 9 most annoying Christmas Songs
Per Huffpo: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/11/29/most-annoying-christmas-songs_n_789221.html#s193379

Paul McCartney - "Simply Having A Wonderful Christmastime"
Newsong - "Christmas Shoes"
Band Aid - "Do They Know It's Christmas?"
Bruce Springsteen - "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town"
Dr. Elmo - "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer"
The Jingle Dogs - "Jingle Bells"
Gayla Peevey - "I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas"
Madonna - "Santa Baby"
Wham! - "Last Christmas"

When I used to work retail Paul McCartney's song ruined the holiday for me for all time. This year I'll get a break as I will be working all month long and will miss the holiday, but I've been informed that next year we're doing a tree and the whole works for baby's 1st Christmas.

20. Agree
I don't recall the last one, I like "Grandma", but the other seven should be scrubbed from all playlists in the world forever.

Except in a certain large, echoing room where the people that wrote, performed, produced and promoted those songs are forced to listen to them at 90 decibels 24/7 while tied to a chair.

Christmas music. I have a huge collection of a broad range of Christmas music and there are so many wonderful tunes/compositions.

Check out some Anonymous Four, Baltimore Consort, Piffaro - if you like classical music of any type. Amazing stuff.

11. Yeah, that is really bad McCartney.
But he can never get any worse as a lyricist than he does in "Live and Let Die," ie:

...But if this ever changing world IN which we live IN....

Good grief! And there are even some lyric sources out there that say the line is actually:

...But IN this every changing world IN which we live IN...

Even gooder grief!

21. Yeah, I hate that line, too for the same reason...
So I've pretty much convinced myself that he meant to say,

"But if this ever changing world in which we're living..."

Does that help?

(No pun intended) :)

Even with the switch it sucks, IMHO.

:hi:

7. I like the McCartney song.
And the Band Aid one.

Now that "traditional" (meaning doing the same stupid thing every year,) song I really detest is "Away In A Manger."

I know it's a kids' song.
But the lyrics are simply asinine.
Especially the second verse.

I hate the traditional version of 'Away in a Manger' but fell in love with this version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQbLLowNgSI&playnext=1&list=PL4C0D7D2A11D76552&index=3

It's a completely different melody arranged by John Rutter of England and the Cambridge Singers fame.

39. Christmas Shoes, absolute abomination.
That Paul McCartney one is dreck.

Also, I find Jingle Bell Rock and Rockin' around the Christmas Tree to be extremely annoying. Never take something loud and rebelious like rock and roll and water it down to a white-bread holdiay song.

But nothing NOTHING comes close to the audible nausea that is Christmas Shoes. Hearing it is like being hanged over and over again.

OTOH, I really like So This Is Christmas by John and Yoko.

Edited on Wed Dec-01-10 11:51 PM by last_texas_dem
Several of the others on the list I'm indifferent about, and there are a couple I've never heard- including the apparently infamous "Christmas Shoes"- and I'm not sure I ever want to hear that one!

However, I *love* "Wonderful Christmastime" and have always thought the Singing Dogs' "Jingle Bells" is a lot of fun. There are so many unremarkable, uninspired, covered-for-the-5,000th-time versions of Christmas "classics" that annoy me far more than either of those.
