What would compel a person to write a LTTE to denigrate a college sports coach?
Or even a pro sports team.

LTTE is for stuff involving the community, politics, commentary on news happenings, and so on.

What is in the psyche of people who use the vehicle of the LTTE to piss and moan about how some asshole is coaching or not coaching some sports team?

"As a concerned citizen, and long time supporter of (whatever college) football, I am DISGUSTED by the way that the university continues to employ (whatever coach). The games are no fun to attend because of the constant losses, and I know I speak for many when I call for the dismissal of (coach whatever). Thank you for allowing me to interrupt whatever viable and important social dialogue was going on here to air a completely irrelevant grievance in a totally inappropriate forum to people who have no actual power to do anything about it. I just wanted you all to know that my life is a pile of shit, and this is all I have left to me because I squandered everything I could have been many years ago."

Fucking hell. Grow up, please.

1. Sports talk in general is a masturbatory pursuit
A lot of time, energy and effort spent whining, spinning hypotheticals and constructing scenarios by people not remotely qualified to do so, all concerning an activity which in the grand scheme, is totally and completely meaningless.

2. You don't live in the south, do you??
Hell, if I did some searching, I could probably find LTTEs calling for high school coaches' jobs....

And as a former newspaper guy, I can say with some amusement that a good portion of incoming letters daily were "Bring back my favorite comic strip!!" and "There was an error/misprint in the crossword!"

3. Maybe, a high school coach who was abusive or doing something unethical
If I had no luck with the athletic director, principal, or school board. In that case, hopefully other parents would be involved in voicing their disapproval.
My son isn't nearly to that point and hopefully we'll never be in that situation. I have know of a couple cases though in my home community where the coach should have been fired and possibly faced criminal charges, but was allowed to quietly resign after the season was over.

4. I don't know, but
If Mike Gundy screws the pooch this Saturday and lets the Sooners beat us at home after the season we've had, I just may write a letter or two calling for his head on a platter myself. :silly:
