How to make an 8 and 10 year old make you feel dumb!

Somehow along life's way, I missed things that a second and fourth grader know. I was sitting for my grandchildren yesterday. One needed to review information about a science test today, we were discussing plate tectonics, along with all kinds of info about clouds, atmosphere etc.
(Sure did not have this is in the 4th grade.)

We talked about continental drift and I asked both girls if they ever saw a flat map of the world, showing the outlines of the continents and their possible drift.

Both piped up, Yes Grammy. It is called Pangea. I felt really dumb when they explained the term to me.

OK, I admitted I never heard the word. They filled me in quite well. Both of them.

This AM, off to Google Pangea. Never have I heard the word. Mind you, I'm 68. Sure enough, there was all the info they told me. Should have picked up this word somewhere along the way.

3. I'm 55 and was never taught about Pangea, either. Not

until college, which I just finished 2 years ago.

and I'm pretty sure I was taught about Pangea in high school, or maybe middle school.

4. You can get them back by asking them if they want to go to Gondwanaland for vacation.

Then when they say yes, you can tell them it doesn't exist anymore and add, "In Your Face!".

5. it would have been easy for you to miss.

plate tectonics wasn't developed until the 1960's. then it would have taken a while to become accepted scientific theory and become the basis of the theory of pangea. i'm not sure how long it took then to become part of the science curriculum.
