So, I'm getting married on Wednesday
At the court house... no fuss, no white dress, no glamour... just me and my husband-to-be and possibly his parents to serve as witnesses. We met in college in 1996 in our early 20s, as we were both cast in a school play. After a turbulent relationship, we broke it off in 1997. Never saw each other again, although we exchanged e-mails every few years. I got married. He got married. I got divorced. He got divorced. Then, in 2007 another e-mail exchange. That time we rekindled our relationship and we've been together ever since.

We've been living together for 3 years now; we have bought a house and we have 'kids' ... our cat and dog. So, it will only be a formality.

But still, I'm excited and what I hate the most is that I'm keeping this as a surprise to everyone including co-workers and my side of the family.

On Thursday, my parents and his parents will be coming to Thanksgiving dinner. At that time, we'll reveal the truth to my parents :)

I am happy beyond any measure of happiness known to humankind.

6. I did the same thing
My now husband and I had lived together for 16 years before we decided to get married. The ceremony was on the front porch of our house with the town justice presiding before about 12 close friends and only my one brother from my family. I did not want to make a production out of it and so I did not tell the rest of my family or or his family or anyone at work.

We had, however, invited lots of people to a big backyard party the next day to let the cat out of the bag.

It was a wonderful thing to do and I hope that you will be as happy as we are. Congratulations! How exciting.

13. I was too weak and couldn't resist. I already told my parents!
They are very happy...now, when I change my Facebook status to "married" then we'll see fireworks.

On a serious note, I am on a somewhat friendly term with my ex husband. We don't have any friends in common, we live in different geographic areas, and all, but WWEPD? What Would Emily Post Do?

12. Oh yes...
Edited on Mon Nov-22-10 01:39 PM by WilmywoodNCparalegal
they met him in 1996 when I first dated him. They went on vacation for 2 weeks and asked him to keep me company :P ... we spent many a night making fun of athletes at the 1986 summer Olympics, amongst other activities

We've been living together for the past 3 years and they've met him countless times. I have met his parents countless times. My parents adore him. His parents adore me. It's a win-win all around.

23. Congratulations!
My parents were married at my dad's cousin's home. His parents were there, but Mom's weren't. I don't think they planned very much at all.

Sometimes the best things are the little things.

What a great weekend you'll have!
