ThanksGiving Dinner: Buy Or Cook?
Edited on Thu Nov-18-10 02:31 PM by divineorder
Usually I go to my sister's house for Thanksgiving Dinner. She does most of the cooking and I spend most of my day talking to my mother. This year, she has decided that she's had enough of the annual ritual. Not that I mind going out to eat, but I feel that I would rather stay home. But I usually cook something when I do. But this year, I don't really want to cook either even for the leftovers. I can buy a pre-made meal for about $40, which would be fine because it's just me.

But I feel a little guilty, but not guilty enough to forfeit a day of ease. What should I do?

reading what you wrote it says pretty clearly to me that you want to buy a premade dinner, so do that! or even better have a pizza delivered so you don't even have to go pick up the food! Sounds kind of nice to me, honestly.

3. 'Im going to do that Kali
I did some thinking and realized I didn't even want to do dishes this year. So it's Kroger's this year plus a couple of purchased touches. I won't have to do dishes-besides Thanksgiving Friday is a favorite time for me to watch videos and blog the day away.

2. What guilt? Buy the dinner.
You may find that you really like this option. You may hate it too, but if you don't try you'll never find out.

4. I LOVE to all-out cook for others (ESPECIALLY kids), but when it's just me...
.
.
.
.
.
...I'll do SOME creative or work-intensive stuff, but not often.
.
.
.
If it's just you -- a full turkey dinner with the trimmings is a LOT of work...
and I think would potentiate the fact that there's no sense of gathering.
.
.
.
That said, I LOVE Thanksgiving leftovers, so the pre-made dinner sounds just
great (you might want to make your own stuffing -- that's usually a very
personal taste.
.
.
.
That said, Kali's idea of a pizza sounds great, too.
.
.
.
A dive bar I used to really like puts together excellent holiday meals cooked
by the staff and regulars -- an immense potluck where anyone can come in and
enjoy... whether they buy drinks or not.

6. It's hard to make good premade dressing.
I checked out the dinner, and it serves 8! So I will inquire a couple things: could I get it half-sized? I'm sure I'm not the only one who could be dining alone or with one other person. If that answer is no, I will get a rotisserie chicken and individual dishes from the deli instead.

5. I love a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, and I love to cook...I'm sorry that you don't, but
the pizza thing sounds like a great alternative if you just want to call it another day...
But I'd probably get a large Italian sandwich with hot peppers and extra tomato.
