1. Is it a Tivo?
Possibly a disk drive gone bad.

I feel your pain.

3. Yes, I believe it is a Tivo.
We're not ready to give it up yet because of the dual tuners. I have no idea how to go about finding a new dual-tuner DVR, if they're even made anymore. The DVR in the guest room has only one tuner.

I know, I can google, but a lot of what I find is in geek-speak. I don't speak geek. :)

6. I'm pretty sure that almost all DVRs now have at least 2 tuners.
Certainly the bulk of the ones provided by cable/satellite providers. If it's just the disk that's bad, most of those can be swapped out fairly easily.

7. Are they really?
Maybe I'll call up DirecTV and see if they've got any.

9. It might be cheaper to find a good used one on craigslist, but
here's a place that repairs Tivos, for a pretty high price, yikes.

Good luck.

2. Ours was doing that, too -- it was a bad button on the remote.
I bought a new remote, and now it works fine.

Does your tuner re-boot on it's own, or does it happen after you hit a certain button on your remote? Our tuner would re-boot whenever we hit the "clear" button.

4. Both. However
Last night's reboot was right after I had pushed "pause" then flipped over to the other tuner. It seems that other combinations of button pushage have caused the reboot, too.

8. I just found out that our Tivo is still doing it -- despite the new remote.
Oy vey!

5. It must not have your taste in porn.

Frankly, I don't have a clue. I've never owned one of those - but then again, I haven't watched TV since like '82. We did get cable for one year while my youngest was in kindergarten, but only for "Reading Rainbow", "Mr. Rogers", "Sesame Street", and "Bear in the Big Blue House".
