I guess I'm a geezer who doesn't like to hang out with other geezers.
(mini rant)
Most of the geezers I know are very right wing military veterans.
I'm not.

We came along at a time when military service was mandatory for most of us.
If it hadn't been, I probably would have had 'other priorities' like Uncle Dick.
I don't know what it is about old guys who are veterans, but liberals in that group are definitely in the tiny minority.
What's wrong with ME?

Yesterday a guy I know called to tell me about the free lunch for veterans at Applebys on Veterans' Day, honoring us veterans.
OK, that's nice of them.
:-)

He and three other geezers planned to be there at 11:00 to avoid the rush.
Would I like to join them?
(I happen to know that this guy takes his evening meal at 5 p.m. That's just uncivilized.)
Um...no thanks. I think I have a dentist's appointment.
Or something.
:eyes:

1. I don't eat lunch at 11:00 unless I didn't eat breakfast.
And then it's 'brunch'.
I'll have a Bloody Mary to start, thanks.
You're allowed to do that at brunch.

2. I don't want to be with a bunch of old farts who are going to whinge and piss and moan about Obama and the 'librul Democrats'.
Or even worse, crow about the repug 'landslide'.
Also, these guys never heard about trimming ear and nose hair and that just grosses me out.
Especially while I'm eating.
In fact, it grossed me out just writing those words.
yuck
:puke:

Disclaimer: Yes, it was nice of the guy to ask me.
Too bad he and his buddies aren't 'nice'.
I hope this will forestall the 'at least he invited you' replies.
Maybe?
:-)

1. I know what you mean. I don't consider myself in the geezer phase
yet, but I am close enough to it that many people in my sphere of acquaintances are definitely geezers. They can really drag you down with them if you are around them too long. I always remember my mom and her sister both staying away from people their age. Said they would never want to live in a retirement community where all you see is cranky old people bitching about every ache and pain and operation. Gotta love them though---your friends will hate liberals and gloat over the landslide, but don't ask them to give up their SS and Medicare. Oh heaven forbid.

And I just have to say it---it was nice of them to ask you to join them.

2. They don't drag me down so much as just piss me off.
I just can't abide stupidity.
You can 'fix' ignorance.
You can help educate the unlearned.
But you can't fix teh stupid.

And 'roger' about S/S retirement benefits and Medicare.
And when I tell them that it was the freaking DEMOCRATS who got that for them, they just say 'Yeah, but...'.
:eyes:

Jeez, you hadda say it, hunh?
;-)

I WAS in the Red Hat Society but night after night listening to the bitching became to much for me. I came to the point where I just did not feel like I belonged with a bunch of cranky old women who nothing nothing ever made them happy. I also know some of them take from the government but do not like the government. I think they should change their name from the Red Hatters to the Red Tea Baggers, seriously.

5. I used to live in a BEAUTIFUL setting way out in the desert (close to the interstate)...
.
.
.
... between Tucson and Phoenix in an RV park. Nothing in between me and Picacho
Peak (see pic below) but a mile or so of desert -- the scene in the picture was
pretty much the scene, perspective, and distance from my front door.
.
.
.
HEAVY retired population. There were lots of social activities, but I'd hear the
geezers (heavy rightwing population) talk and moan and rant and see them try to
"outflag" each other on their properties and vehicles (sometimes I was tempted
to stand in front of MY rig holding up a big ol' "GOD HATES FLAGS" poster).
.
.
.
No WAY I wanted to hang with these folks. I wouldn't even admit to my six years
in the Army -- mumble something about "bad feet" when asked -- which caused me
to become socially ostracized.
.
.
.
I'm brilliant like that.

9. I have always had very different political opinions nearly
all my life and have never had a group to hang out with. I have some close friends but we do not live near one another.

10. Agree with most of it, but hey it's a free lunch!
When some old fart starts griping about "Obama-care", I remind them that they're either on Medicare or in the VA health system, both are types of "socialized medicine".

Today's lunch was especially delicious when talking about the Dead-in-the-water cruise ship full of people eating cold c-rats. (ok, maybe newer MREs).

And, Applebees wasn't the only place. Hooters had the same deal. That'll quiet the geezers, at least for a while.
