A girl I went to high school with has become a pro-life fundie Christian.
Who told me I'm destroying my soul with bitterness and dislike.

Said girl used to identify as bi and kinky, and we almost dated in high school.

Am I a terrible person for finding this totally hilarious?

2. Yes, you are a terrible person!
If you had just dated her she might not have gone over to the dark side.

:P

4. That happened to a friend of mine also.
Guy I used to talk to, joke around with, got "Born again," now he's a "Lord Robot."

Waddles around saying "The Lord. The Lord. The Lord."

Haven't seen him in years now.

5. Come the day of rapture ...
She will ride through the pearly gates in a golden limo.

The rest of us will be in a downward speeding handbasket.

I think that's from the biblical book of Applesauce. A little squad of horsemen, and all that.

Series, there had to be some trauma to cause such a radical shift. So it may not be hilarious. Unless of course, she "got religion" in order to get laid. Then I have to nod my head and say, "yeah, that makes sense now".

:hi:

6. A friend of mine had that happen to him as well
Some young woman he had fooled around with in college - he broke up with her over some inane reason after several dates, but had always regretted it. He ran into her several years later and they were both single at the time, so they got together to talk about old times - and, then she gave him this big spiel about finding jesus and whatnot and it was like a 180 from her college personality.

10. I had a party animal friend in the 80's... guy was a NON-STOP partier.
Fun to be around (unless you were his wife, I guess...)
I lost touch with him over the years, and then one day
out of the blue, he called and told me that he wanted
to buy me lunch "while he could".

I assumed he was dying or something, so I went. He
told me that he was going to jail for growing pot
in his backyard, the last straw for the courts as
far as my friend was concerned.

I expressed dismay, and then he launched in about
how it was all the democrats fault that he was in
trouble, that democrats and unions ruined the economy,
blah, blah, blah.

I couldn't get out of there FAST ENOUGH.

Afterwards, I realized that we never HAD discussed
politics, just business deals and boozing it up.

Caught me completely by surprise.

8. How would you deal with a victim of mass hysteria?
Edited on Thu Nov-11-10 01:12 PM by Heidi
That's how I'd deal with a person like whoever-she-is. I find it more sad than funny, but I don't think you're a terrible person in any regard. And anyway, it doesn't matter what I think. What matters most is what you think of yourself.

9. The typical Baptist response: "I'll pray for you." is suitable for you to say to her.
and they even made a song about that - the singer would pray for bad things to happen to the target of the song.

I don't find it hilarious. In fact quite the opposite - that someone who identifies herself as a Christian who would judge you like that - in complete contradiction to the words of Jesus himself - to be a sad event - sad for her that is IMO. Ironic is a better word but definitely not hilarious.

11. Perhaps there are other factors
like an addiction or a needed behavior change. In today's world, there isn't much offered to help people make changes other than religion that isn't expensive or not accepted.

It's quite common to go this direction when one's world is out of control because it gives one a way to find a semblance of control.

It also can create zealots in people that are having a lot of trouble in their lives so they think trying harder and becoming totalitarian in their beliefs and life will help.

Now she's ripe for the GOP to spread their lies- and make her a voter if she isn't already.

12. At least the GOP will not have a chance to spread their lies to this one
but the Canadian Conservative Party will, which is almost as bad. :(

13. I was born and raised in South Tx. When I got on FB and
the people I grew up with wanted to "friend" me, I happily did. Unfortunately, almost every single one of them are right-wing, Christian wackos. I ended up putting them on "hide" so I can't read their disgusting comments.
