My shoes won't stay tied, especially my right shoe. Isn't there some kind

of tip to make them stay tied?

BTW, I'm left-handed, and I've been told I don't tie my shoes the way normal people do.

14. That reminds me
I once saw a homeless person downtown who had duct tape wrapped around both feet...that was his shoes.

5. Ian is clearly passionate about shoelace knots - you don't often see it discussed
so thoroughly! I laughed at the "double slip knot" crack. :)

You'll find similar sites related to backpacking;not just the lace knots, but all different styles of lacing your boot to add or remove pressure on certain parts of the foot, or prevent boot movement in one direction or another. It can get kind of complicated - and although it seems trivial at first, good lacing has a big impact after a couple dozen trail miles...

4. Double knots
Or tie the "bows" of the laces afterwards.

Or, the problem is often that the rest of the laces aren't "tight" and cause the bow to loosen when the slack moves around.

Tighten your laces, not against the shoe, agains itself. (i.e. take the bows after you tie them and "pull" the bows, hard)

10. Yep.
Tie the bows after making them. Always works.

Or get some of these:

6. Find cotton laces
instead of the polyester shit. Polyester slips and unties. I also knot the bows a second time. Works.

7. FLAT COTTON LACES!! Hard to find, since it seems that round poly ones are everywhere .

That is the only solution that worked for me.

PS I am left-handed too. I do not think it is a factor.

8. use an a & p knot. mr rogers taught it to me. i'm series.
when you tie the initial knot, wrap around one more time. this is a knot that will stay snug while you tie the bow. and yeah, a double knot on the bow, and you almost need a knife or something to untie them sometimes.

and for you youngens, the a & p was a grocery store chain, and before the invention of plastic, they used to wrap you meat and other stuff in paper and tie it with string. i am old enough to remember that shit.

13. are you tying a reef knot or a granny knot?

Reef knots also have the advantage of keeping the loops horizontal.

15. Are you using round or flat laces?
If round, and even some flat ones, go to the nearest music store and pick up a small package of rosin(used for string instrument bows)and gently rub some of the stuff into the laces.

Or, as many have suggested, just tie double knots.

17. Use Y ties
http://www.y-ties.com/

Schools sell them to make money. I think you also can just order them online. The come in black, white and also lots of "kid" colors.

18. I have a pair of boots that will not stay tied - nylon round laces. I double knot them,
and they stay tied.
