Tech Folks Help Please?? IE problem.

I have Windows 95, but need to upgrade my Internet
Explorer to v6.0.

The download says the Win95 platform does not support
6.0.

Is there any way around this, or am I screwed. It's
for a job.

Thanks in advance.

1. Do you need to use IE?
If you can get an older version of netscape or opera, i'd give that a try. Sadly, any newer browser, even if supporter on Win95, is going to be slow and problematic.

2. You are screwed ...
WIN95B OSR2 is unsupported by applications developers ...

The Apps developers have 'developed' beyond 95, and even 98 by now ... they presume everyone has at least 2000 or XP ...

I have one machine on a shelf because I couldnt get 98 to load properly on a Pentium III motherboard ...

It is a dinosaur ....

9. opera
I believe Opera has the ability to appear as any browser. If it has the functionality it should get you past the check.

11. Now I'm out of my depth.

Download opera and tell it it is IE 6.0?

6. Why not try Firefox?
There are some web functions that are so tightly configured for Internet Explorer that nothing else will play them. But it wouldn't hurt for you to have a try with Firefox 0.8. (And it does work on Windows 95.)

7. There's lots of other ways to FTP
If you simply need to connect to an FTP site to upload/download files, use an FTP client like WS-FTP or Cute FTP. You can download it from Tucows. You don't need a web browser at all.

8. Use Filezilla
Better yet, use Filezilla. Filezilla is a great open source FTP client AND server (for those who want a small, easy to use FTP server for at home). The FTP client interface resembles Cute-FTP's interface greatly.

12. If all else fails, there's always the public library.
Some desktop publishing/copy shops have computers for hourly rental. Good luck.
