Businesses harassing Immigrant employees.
A friend of mine is here on a Green Card. She's from Canada. She got a temp job at a big costume shop, working the Halloween rush. Today was her first day.

Someone came up $100 short on their till. They accused her of stealing it, without any proof, and demanded that she pay it back to them. They threatened to get her green card revoked unless she came up with the $100 on the spot to pay them back for the missing money.

We are now hearing from others that they have a history of blaming any losses on their newest employees, and if they have an employee who is an immigrant they use that against them. :(

She is devastated, depressed, and in a really bad place emotionally right now. She is a shy person, and not always very outspoken. Her husband is out of town right now too, so she is home alone trying to deal with this.

Fortunately, she has a whole lot of friends, and we're all rallying to her on Facebook, through email, on the phone, and going to her in-person to offer her emotional support. Hopefully she'll spend the next few days visiting each of us in turn, not spending time alone.

What a really horrible and shitty way for a company to treat employees. But most of all, what a monstrous thing to do to people with green cards who are so vulnerable! To accuse them of a crime they didn't commit, and demand that they pay money they can't afford and don't really owe to avoid being deported... As company policy to cover company losses?

:wtf:
