Evil Cell phone
Today while I was riding the Ferry into work I was overcome with an almost irresistible urge to toss my cell phone over the edge of the boat. It got so bad that I had to go inside of the boat for fear that I would toss it to just get another, and waste a good hour of my life looking up and reprogramming all the phone numbers into it. Still I know now that my cell phone is my enemy and hopefully someday I will no longer be shackled to it.

2. You get to ride a ferry to work?
That's so cool! :bounce:

I used to ride down the Incline in Pittsburgh to get to work, but a ferry sounds way cooler!

4. DO IT! DO IT!
Throw it out!
Sheesh- you can't even say hello to anyone on the street anymore because of those things. How F--king important is it really to have that damn thing hanging off your ear ALL the time!!

(my apologies for those who really need them - parents etc.)

6. Really needs it??
Raised 2 kids quite nicely without one. If you could do without it when it didn't exist, you can do without it now.

(yeeha, neither kid uses one either)

5. one of the true joys in life is being away from the phone . . .
I, therefore, do not have a cell and do not intend to purchase one . . . ever . . . there's an answering machine on my house phone . . . if it's important, I'll call them back . . .

7. One vacation, I got so
annoyed at the cell phone calls for my husband, I did throw the thing out. No, we were not arguing at the time. Not my most intelligent move, I just was tired of interruptions. He now keeps the thing off on vacation and sneaks away when he wants to check messages.

I routinely leave my cell phone off. I have a message on it that I don't know how to get messages which is a lie, I just hate the idea of being always on call. I despise cell phones.

8. I have one
I got a really nice $200 model for free, but I've never bothered to purchase service for it. I don't really need it for my current job, but unfortunately I may in a month or two. The thought of a ringing phone chasing me through the world is yucky.

10. I have a profound hatred of cell phones, yet...
...I realize they are a true godsend. Naturally, when you're running late to a meeting, calling for medical help, or even just consulting your spouse about the shopping list ("Honey, they're out of salmon"), they make life much easier and safer.

THAT SAID, the infernal things have raped, pillaged and plundered their miserable little selves through our lives.

*You pay $100 or more for a show and some idiot answers her cell phone to CHAT during the performance.

*You're attending a lecture and some idiot ignored the explicit request to turn the cell phones off. His rings and he climbs over a row of people while answering it (I saw this happen when Helen Thomas spoke one night at the National Press Club).

*The phones ring during religious services (and probably in the confessional, for all I know), during weddings, during visits to chapels.

*Nearly everyone I pass in the street has a little device clamped to his/her head.

*Now people walk around with headsets and appear to be talking to themselves, and it's considered normal.

Like any other device, cell phones are great servants and poor masters. I don't have one for now, and I doubt I'll be tempted soon.
