Anyone good at ID'ing fonts?

Any clue what this font might be?

Thanks in advance.

1. This looks like a close match:
http://new.myfonts.com/fonts/linotype/diotima/roman-oldstyle-figures/

That site has a font finder that looks at an image you upload (your logo graphic there, for instance).

Nah, just made that up because it seemed to fit.

7. Garamond light? It's impossible to tell these days, unlike 15-20 years ago,
when people HAD to use high-quality PostScript fonts (meaning ones from Adobe, Linotype, or Monotype) because the projects they produced would be used on a printing press.

Nowadays (not to sound like an old fart, though I am one), anybody can produce any old crappy font for use on the Internet because hey, it's only going to be screen resolution anyway, so there's no need for mapping or hinting anyway.

When I started my business in 1991, I made a good amount of money "matching" unspecfied typefaces for printers who got files from their customers that had no font information. I spent a small fortune on type libraries from the above sources. Nowadays, I don'tthink Adobe is even still in the font business.

8. Oh, you mean like when we had Courier 10 and Times 12? - wait that was more like 30 years.
Edited on Wed Oct-20-10 03:13 PM by HopeHoops
I learned on a damn typewriter and hit 50 WPM in high school (one year of the class). I can still pull 80 WPM on a computer if I need to and my error rate is far better than in past years.

On Edit: Shit. My eldest daughter was BORN in '91. Damn I feel old now. And no, as far as I know Adobe got out of the font business a LONG time ago - no money to be made. Photoshop and Elements are their real cash cows now.

9. Gol dang, it sounds like we're contemporaries. Do you remember having a lust
for an IBM Selectric? If you do, I'll know that you're indeed from my generation.

10. Shit, that's what I learned on. 1978 - Mrs. Hunter's typing class. Damn was she tough.

We had to use correction tape to fix errors (except while being tested - errors counted against WPM score). The Selectrics we had didn't have the nifty special key that threw the correction tape up instead of the black ribbon. That's really weird since my old manual (early 70's) which I still have had both a correction tape AND a dual black/red ribbon!

On Edit: And then there were the fucking carbon sheets - AAARRRGHH!!! I had to laugh when they FINALLY figured out that "Cc" in an e-mail didn't mean anything to people who had no clue what "carbon copy" meant and tried to rebrand it as "courtesy copy".

11. Dang, you're younger than me. I learned to type in 1968, WAY before
anyone dreamed of something like a Selectric.

12. Yeah, I watched the Apollo 11 landing on a 10" or so B&W TV.
I was six. I got my manual about three or four years after that but didn't understand the concept of touch typing until I took my high school class. I don't even look at a keyboard anymore - even for the weird keys. And I'm not shitting you, I can still pull 80 WPM. Curiously, I got my first computer job right out of high school because I could type and knew BASIC on an Apple II.
