we told my son for weeks before his 2nd birthday that "2 year olds didn't have pacies..." he got up that morning and threw it in the trash - a big production! Though when it was time for bed that night he did ask for it and we reminded him that he was "two now and didn't need a pacie anymore..." Oh - and he got a "big boy bed" that day, too - a toddler bed instead of the crib - so there was that excitement at bedtime, too.
Oh - yeah - he was also doing differential calculus!
just kidding!
Although we "counted" everything all the time - buttons, dogs, blocks, cans, cars - how many blue ones, etc,.
Lots of manipulatives to play with. Sorting colors and shapes - (and counting). Filling and dumping - water or sand (pouring & measuring really...).
He loved Barney and Mr. Rogers. READING books - having me read to him for hours every day.
He didn't much care for cars at all. Would play with legos/blocks only if you played with him. Dancing. Throwing, catching, and hitting the ball (yes, he could hit a ball with a bat - okay a big ball and a fat bat, but still - and yes, it's unusual.) Going to the playground or exploring/hiking.
Oh and bedtime, we told him the Clock said when it was bedtime - it would chime and we would count the "hour" so he would know it was "his bedtime" . . .
