Remember Marjorie Knoller and Robert Noel? Disgusting human beings.

However, reading this evening about the death of Diane Whipple--a lacrosse player and coach--I learned of a beautiful and generous act by Whipple's surviving partner. Having successfully sued Knoller & Noel for their part in Whipple's tragic and wrongful death, Sharon Smith received $1.5M in damages.

Smith donated the money to Saint Mary's College of California to fund the women's lacrosse team there.

What an amazing and fitting tribute. I'm sorry that I hadn't heard of it sooner, though it is a fairly recent development. Smith only won the suit in late August of this year, though Whipple died in January of 2001.

3. I've not heard of any of those people, and now there's a deleted subthread.
Wish I knew what had happened here.

I didn't know that LaCrosse related deaths could spark such controversy.

I just read Whipple's wiki page - very beautiful woman, and what an awful way to die. Good for her partner for going after the bastards.

4. Whipple had been at Penn State around the same time that I was, though I didn't know her

And you're right of course--a horrible way to die.

The "piece of shit" angle is that the dogs' owners made repeated media appearances in which they all but came out and said that Whipple was at fault. They demonstrated no sense of remorse or responsibility nor even any basic human compassion.

In that way, their callous dismissal of human suffering resonated with the way the current piece of shit has been mocking the sick little girl.

5. Just looked up Jennifer Petlov - what a piece of shit, indeed. Just tried to run someone over, too.
Dang.

6. Yeah, that's kind of what kicked off this thread in the first place
It would be nice if we could discover that people like that aren't actually human after all but some sort of grotesque, fungus-based life that approximates human form.
