Guaranteed instructions for starting fires aimed at amateur campers, first daters, outdoor partiers.
If you want to be "The Man or The Woman" when it comes to starting outdoor fires at campgrounds, first dates at the beach, or generally any time whatsoever, without fail so that people will think of you as "The Go-To Guy or Go-To Woman", here's how you do it.

First, stop at the local supermarket or wherever "match-light" barbeque bricks are sold. Buy the smallest bag. The given here is that you'll need a bundle of wood. You can buy that just about anywhere if a campground or beach is near.

Build your fire ONLY in the approved fire pit.
Start by placing two logs 12" apart, parallel.
Put 15-20 of the match-light charcoal bricks in between the parellel logs.
Place 3 logs on top of the first two at a 90 degree angle.
Continue with 2 logs each layer, closer together each layer until you have what amounts to a four-sided pyramid of logs.
Light the charcoal.
Pull up a chair and enjoy the fire you just built.

Guaranteed, every time. Build it, light it, and sit back.

Forget newspapers, forget blowing on the fire at the bottom of the stack, just build it, light it, and sit back. Then ask for a cocktail.
