This was sent to me in 10 languages
LittleCoffee just started 1st grade, and this was sent home on a flyer in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Mandarin Chinese, Amharic, Lao, Tagalog, Cambodian and Tigriana.

"It is the policy of the Seattle School Board to encourage and support family involvement in education, at home, in our schools and communities, and in school governance. The Board recognizes the diversity of family structures, circumstances, and cultural backgrounds and respects families as important decision-makers for their children's education. The Board is committed to the creation and implementation of culturally inclusive and effective school-family partnerships throughout the School District and in each school, and believes these partnerships to be critical to the success of every student."

My question is, does it actually say anything in any of the other languages, because it's a complete mess in English. I feel bad for whoever had to translate that into Amharic.

1. Translates as follows:
Get involved with your child's education. We can't do it all by ourselves!

7. From my experience it means "We are busy teaching your kid to pass a test.
We require you to teach him/her anything involving actual learning when they get home."

No Child Left Behind means No Child Gets Ahead and No Teacher Gets To Teach and No Parent Gets To Sleep, but No Politician Gives A Damn.

2. I'll bet a committee spent two hours in a workshop to come up with that gravel.

5. Since I already translated it, I might as well let you know what language it is.

The original message was written in a language I like to call, "corporate bullshit". I've read so much of it, I am afraid I have become fluent. It's a useful language, I guess, when you want to say something to someone without them actually realizing what it is that you're telling them. Then, they can't say they were never told.

8. I think the original message was probably this:
"Help, please help us!"

... but they translated it into committee speak, making it pretty near unintelligible. Too bad; a cry for help ought to be as understandable as possible, or it will be ignored.
