Hogs that eat humans... Myth or fact?
Alan Ford described it with gut-wrenching detail in SNATCH.

It's how the locals dispose of dead bodies in DEADWOOD.

Is this shit for real? Can anyone corroborate this?

Are hogs that greedy?

1. I don't know if they are "that greedy"
but they are omnivorous, so I would imagine they are capable of it..

2. Hogs are omnivores just like humans.

I knew some that would eat chickens, live chickens. I also know that they will bite you and are mean SOB's. I can see one of them eating you if it actually took you down.

3. Yes, it is true!
It is suspected that the hogs think humans taste like CHICKEN!

4. Fact.
If you fall down in a hog lot, you better make sure you get back up. Wouldn't be the first time a hog ate a human.

5. Fact
I know hogs ate unburied bodies left on the battlefield at Chancellorsville in the Civil War and, I'm sure, other ones, too.
Hogs are omnivorous.
John
I agree it's pretty gross -- but there you are.

6. Well, from personal experience
I've never fed a human to one, but we used to slaughter our own sheep and would always feed the innards to the pigs. They loved it, and I loved them in a similar fashion later on :-)

So, if they'd eat the guts of a sheep, I would expect they'd eat the same bits of a human.

7. Yes, I think so
They aren't particularily picky when they are hungry :(
But then again...WE eat them! So what the hell?

8. Yes. It happens.
Momma hogs protecting her babies are especially aggressive.

10. In B.C.
Some serial killers with a pig farm fed their hogs humans.

Very gruesome, and sad. Lot of Vancouver "working girls" were the victims.

15. No, their meat was only fed to friends.
They'd have wild parties, lots of bikers, druggies, a real bad crowd, and roast the hogs. Weird stuff. But it was a small-scale pig farm, non-commercial thank god.

There was some evidence that the inedible parts -- bones, hooves, etc -- were sold to a local rendering plant which made materials for soaps and cosmetics, though.

An equally sickening thought I suppose.

12. They'[ll eat basically anything you give them
But will go out of their way to hunt down and kill a human?

No, they won't. One need not fear for one's life around them.

it's just their palate is utterly non-discriminating. Rotten cabbage, human flesh, carrot peelings, beef fat, sheep poop - they'll eat it all.

13. FACT.
In fact, Pickton, the serial killer, fed his victims to his hogs... And then butchered them and gave the meat to his neighbors.

Worse, it appears that some bits of the girls he killed were made into sausage more directly and also given to the neighbors.

EWWWWW.

14. In early human history,
herds of swine hunted people as a food source. Remember, pigs are a very smart animal. The traces of memory of this is likely how the pig came to symbolize "evil" in many parts of the world.

16. Why not...
any other carnivore or omnivore will eat humans. We're just meat when we're dead.

If you say hello to a shark or polar bear, you're just meat while you're alive.

If you plan on dropping dead alone at home, make sure your cat or dog has a big enough food bowl to last until you're found.
