Explain your avatar!
Most of us have interesting/unique avatars that we selected to reflect an aspect of our personality...so what does yours represent?

Errr, mine is pretty nerdy. I'd be surprised if anybody knows what it is...

But feel free to share what yours is about! :hi:

3. I chose mine 'cause I'm a rebel.
Lots of people here think the flag belongs to the right wingers - they certainly love to wrap themselves in it, don't they? But they stand against everything this flag is the symbol of.

Don't forget that the stars and stripes started out as a rebel flag - rejecting the authority of the King and of a paliament to which we had no representation. Rejecting the divine right of kings and pissing in the face of the establishment.

The founders were very imperfect, but they were enlightenment men and very progressive by the standards of their day.

And as stars and stripes were added to the flag, freedoms were also added to the people. The franchise extended to all races and sexes. With some major setbacks, one of which I feel we are still in right now, this flag has presided over an inexorable march towards greater freedom and fulfillment of its people. It flew over the armies that rolled back fascism in WWII.

I am not willing to cede this flag to the fascists of my generation. It's not theirs. It's a rebel flag, and always will be.

6. It's Roland of Gilead.
The titular character of the first book of Stephen King's The Dark Tower series. He's a gunslinger, he kills people. I like to think of myself as an ideological-liberal gunslinger, I kill stupid craven pragmatic centrist arguments.

I've said it before, I'd rather go down fighting than compromise. My Roland is a reflection of that.

32. As far as that goes, there was talk of the Dark Tower series being made
into a movie...and having read the books ( like you have ) and remembering the description of Roland everyone was prompted to post what celebrity would best portray Roland...and I picked this guy, Dylan McDermott

In every way, the description I read practically screamed out this actors name to fill the role...same eyes, hair, hardened-rough kind of look to him...what do you think? Would he be a good Roland? Without the smile, of course...but I looked for a picture that seemed to bring out more of the facial qualities there

I have had several different avatars over the years. I chose Ted Kennedy last year when he passed away. (I had used him before, too.)

I have left it up as kind of a little "protest" because his health care plan is still unfulfilled. I ask, "What would Teddy say?"

Love affairs with various guitar solos, elusive sonorities and an obsession with singing, playing, the public performance of, listening to and exploring music has ruined a very promising military career.

My avatar is a photo of my deceased husband.
Joe served in Vietnam , USMC.
PTSD and heroin addiction, died by the needle.
Causality of war in 1992.

His photo is the story of my life...Love, Life, Death, Agent Orange....
A constant reminder that the horrors of war last a lifetime and go on for generations.
On both sides.

This photo was taken while he was in a drug unit at the area state hospital. The VA would not accept him in their drug rehab program because he refused to abide by their rules. He would not cut his hair.

Life goes on.

peace~

75. Crop and background change of The Grateful Dead's immortal "Grateful Dead" album...
...a.k.a. "Skull & Roses," originally conceived as "Skullf**k" by the band.

The last official release with Pigpen...the Godchauxs would be along for the next ride, "Europe 72."

This was the first Grateful Dead album I ever bought.

In the years that have followed, the Dead have released a wealth of archive material from this period, via the "Dick's Picks" and "Road Trips" series.

ESPECIALLY tasty is Road Trips Vol. 1 No. 3...

...and "Three From The Vault."

For the truly obsessive there is "Dick's Picks 35," a.k.a. "The Houseboat Tapes," named so because the master tapes were found on Keith Godchaux's houseboat after his death. The tapes were given to Godchaux by the band when he joined so that he could quickly learn their material before jumping into the deep end of the pool. No way of knowing if he ever listened to a single tape. 4 hours 43 minutes, 44 songs, 4 CDs.

Wikipedia's description (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dick%27s_Picks_Volume_35): "t is a four CD set that contains the complete show recorded on August 7, 1971 at Golden Hall in San Diego, California, and a substantial portion of the show recorded on August 24, 1971, at the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago, Illinois. It also includes bonus tracks from August 6, 1971, at the Hollywood Palladium in Hollywood, California."

Two of my favorite hobbies are paddling (recreational kayak) and playing poker. Sometime in the past couple of years I drew up a design of what I would like a custom set of poker chips to look like. This is an animated version of that. (OK, so it's not very animated on here...)

about twelve years ago. It rattled around in my hard drive till I signed up here. It's easy to spot on a long thread and it reminds me of something from Hieronymus Bosch. The title of the gif was originally Satan, although I don't know why. It has animated gif potential if I ever get around to it.
