Poll question: Gamers: Unreal Tournament 2004?
It's out as of the 16th.

Got it yet? It runs faster than UT 2k3 and features a lot more gameplaying modes...

Takes 6GB of HD space though.

Works great in Linux too. :9

1. Good game
I just finished up Deus Ex: Invisible War, so I'm ready to start playing something new. UT 2004 actually runs pretty well on my three-year-old desktop machine (Pentium-III 933 Mhz, 512 MBs RAM, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro video card).

2. I liked the demo..
...definitely better than 2k3. Ran and looked great on my XP2400+/Radeon 9600XT rig.

I may pick it up - I'm an old school Unrealer (playing the original through again, 21st time), so I'm a little skeptical of the new games. But I'll probably bite and buy this.

I do hear that Doom 3 is only weeks away. Also, looking for STALKER, Half Life 2 and Call Of Cthulu for the rest of this year. :)

3. Great game but

I'm still waiting for the map that can match the fun of UT 99's Hall Of Giants.

The exhilaration of launching out the boom tube and snagging the opponents flag and trying to escape ..... "Suhweet!". :)

Lol, I'll never forget the time that I caught so much concussion from enemy rocket launchers that I was propelled over the platform that holds the redeemer. Max health and shield so I survived. :)

UT2003 has a user made map by Slick Willy that offers almost as much fun, it's called Forest of Giants. It's heavily based on Tokara Forest which like HOG is a Juan Pancho "XceptOne" Eekels map.

That dude rocks.

Everyone is going gaga over the vehicles. They really are impressive.

Eh, I prefer simplicity though and I dread having to hunt up keys on the keyboard. I use my center and side mouse buttons to add some extra bindings but still ....

Lol, I'm an old timer in case you haven't guessed, lol. :)

I'm glad you're enjoying the game.

I'm waiting on Syberia II which should be in stores tomorrow and I'm really looking forward to the sequel to The Longest Journey.

4. I tried so hard to like The Longest Journey
but I guess I stink at adventure games. Nice graphics, but I got tired of that girl's voice, and kept missing important things to do.

Maybe I'll try the Syberia sequel...

5. I love shooters, but I've just never been able to get into group games
System Shock 2 still remains my favorite one of all times.

10. Kef I can't recommend a game for you higher than
No One Lives Forever 2. It's outstanding for those who like shooters but never really got into the DM CTF areas.

11. Played it. I liked it, but I'm a bit tired of sneak fps.
I think the only games that hold my attention anymore are those that you "become" a character. I'm tired of these point real-time strategy (give me a turn based one any day!) and now that rpgs have adopted the overhead point-click-attack type games, I've also lost interest in those. It's sad because turn-based and wizardry-type RPGS were what got me into computer gaming.

The same thing happened with me with they stopped doing 2-d games for the consoles.

8. I've heard...
The standard edition is $39, on sale for $35 at best buy, has a $10 discount, has a vastly improved OpenGL rendering engine ( :9 ), has the same game maps as UT2003 plus a lot new ones, the return of old weapons, 5 new announcer voices, the resturn of Assault, a new game that's like Assault but includes the ability to drive craft...

I'm buying it tomorrow without fail. Sounds awesome, and with a $10 rebate after sale price... :9 :9 :9

7. No, HELL NO
Epic has seen my last dime.

They made everything that was great about the original UT mediocre in UT2k3. The sounds are so weak. An amped mini in UT just screams, so does the plasma shaft. The nerfed shock. The omission of armor in favor of shields. The bad scale of the player models vs the enviroment. The overly complex and ugly models--not to mention hard to see.

I tried hard to like 2k3. I tried to like the 2k4 demo. I'd say it's an improvement, but it's just a better 2k3. NOT UT enough for me.

The gameplay, feel, ambiance whatever you wan't to call it isn't there for me.

I'm sticking to Old UT

If Quake 4 is any good I'm done with UT.

BOOM!

12. UT2K3 was my first shooter
Finally my barnacled encrusted old PC died. For years, if I played, it was Age of Kings and Tropico. So I went out and bought a new machine, then tried a different kind of game. UT2K was fast. After a while, it seemed like a slaughter fest. Then I tried return to Wolfenstein Castle. I like the slower pace. Though when solo play grows frustrating, I jump online.
