The Event is trying very hard to combine LOST with 24
It's basically taking the structure of LOST (flashbacks used to reveal backstory and answers to mysteries) and using it on a political thriller a la 24.

I just hope I can shake this addiction before it's 5 seasons in and I'm still waiting for them to answer question after question on top of more questions.

3. it wasn't bad, it was entertaining
Only problem I have is the heavy use of flashbacks. Some of them didn't flash back that far, so a couple scenes were repeated, which was a little annoying. When the West Wing did it, they would show a brief scene in the beginning, then flash back 24 hours or so and take the entire episode to bring you back to the beginning scene and go from there. The Event would repeat a scene within 10 minutes of showing it the first time.

4. I thought the flashbacks were annoying.
And confusing. I never watched 24 or Lost but even I got that this had all been done before. I will watch again though, it was interesting.

5. they were very confusing
Edited on Tue Sep-21-10 07:33 AM by charlie and algernon
I don't know if I can follow a TV show where one story line takes place in the present and with a second story line that takes place 8 days earlier. I still don't know if we've actually seen the "event" or when it actually happened, IF it happened yet.

8. I've learned to wait a year before watching a new show like that
Chances are it will get canceled and I'll be annoyed.

If not, I can watch the episodes back to back on DVD and get much more out of it.

9. I actually did that with both Lost and 24
The year one DVD catch ups are always this lost weekend where you can't stop watching until you're done.

10. Jealous!
I started L O S T that way and got so into it that I started watching it "live". Wish I'd waited because there was so much to keep track of...

2. It was entertaining I thought
Hi,
I watched it, still not sure. I think I will have to watch it again. But yes, I totally agree they are trying to be as much like lost as possible. I will watch it again just to see what happens, lot of questions out there.

Peace

6. I agree on the flashbacks, annoying.
They were a bit much. I'm giving that part of the show a little leeway for the time being, with the thought that they are using it as a tool to set the story up.
If it continues, then there may be a problem!
The fact that something happened right at the end helped it quite a bit. I don't mind being set up, but frankly in an hour, give me some kind of payoff or I'm moving on.

7. "The Event"? The BBC has already broadcast the sequel
and I'd think it makes it hard to take "The Event" seriously:

12. I hope they ditch most of the flashbacks soon.
I understand needing those to tell this kind of story, but the constant jumping back and forth between the time lines of three separate story lines got a little confusing here and there. I'll definitely be turning in again next week, but hope that the story narrative goes a little more smoothly from here out.
