5. Keep the towel on at all times.
If she's breastfed, it's less of a deal because it isn't quite as stinky and won't stain, but watch out for formula. It stains really bad and it's hard to get out.

In the early 1990s, I spent three years as a childcare volunteer at a shelter for battered women. Whenever I held an infant, I placed a towel either on my chest or on my shoulder, depending on what position the little tyke was in.

Despite all the horror stories I heard (and sometimes witnessed) at that place, sometimes I really do miss it. The kids were all terrific, even the troublesome ones. (Hell, especially the troublesome ones!)
