I've pulled the "Adios, DU" myself, so I completely understand. But I am back, as I hope you will be.

Remember, Democrats and Progressives/Liberals, are the big tenters, so there is bound to be opposing viewpoints on many issues. That is the beauty of the whole thing. Tolerance and diversity strengthen us, narrowness and exclusion divide us. Take your pick.

Sorry, I'm just naturally abrasive. I spent about a decade trying to shed that, but it's just part of me. I've learned to embrace it. It's quite an asset when debating dittomonkeys, because like all schoolyard bullies, they only respect power.

Because I refuse to abandon my party to the several Johnny-come-latelies who piss me off regularly. Since it was apparently the Mel Gibson thread that prompted this, which rapidly devolved into some of our atheist friends bashing religion in general and Christianity in particular, I **will** say this: I am a Christian. I have never started an "Atheists Are Stupid" thread and I never will. I have never said on ANY thread that "atheists are stupid," and I never will. I have participated in threads like "Jesus was a Liberal." Otherwise, I have not forced my views on anybody here. I have, however, been regularly insulted, demeaned, abused, and harangued by those who love to spout their views of all things metaphysical. Christians are regularly put down here and stereotyped as stupid, primitive, superstitious, etc.

I'd love to see the uproar among the P.C. if people of the Jewish faith were subjected to similar abuse. The abusers would be run out of here so quickly it would make your head spin.

The Democratic Party is truly a big tent, unlike the Pukes. I don't have a problem with anyone disagreeing with my faith and/or worldview, as long as we share common political goals. But unless you want to see if you can get somebody in the White House on the Atheist Party ticket, you might want to stop insulting so many of your fellow Democrats. We do get tired of it. I, however, will not pack up and leave; I'll stay and fight. Some will not, and that's their right.

Lest anybody think I'm making broad generalizations, there are a number of atheists here on DU who are respectful of the views of their fellow Dems when it comes to religion, and we "agree to disagree agreeably." Unfortunately, there are a number of ASSHOLES too. I'll be glad to name names if you wish.

Last time I looked, this was the Democratic Party, and the Democratic Underground -- not the Atheist Underground or the Christian Underground or the Jewish Underground or anything else. Some people really need to improve their social skills.
