What surprising traits do you find attractive?
Yesterday my church choir sang with another church choir and I was so turned on by the musicianship and rehearsal technique of the other conductor! Thinking back on it, I can remember having that feeling about other conductors I've sung with. Conversely (or would that be inversely?), other conductors whom I've found physically attractive have totally turned me off by being idiots in rehearsal. You learn a lot about a man by how he runs a rehearsal. (BTW, I don't wish to imply anything about the conductor of my own choir by this.)

In a similar vein, I was reading through an article a man I used to date wrote, and just reading his very intelligent words made me think oh so fondly of him again. All those big words--maybe it is about size!

What does this all mean?!

1. I like big words, too
I'm a nerd fan. My mom once commented: "You can tell just by looking -- your sister would never date someone who wasn't fun; your cousin would never date someone who wasn't rich; you'd never date someone who's not smart."

She's pretty well right. (Well, I'm married -- she's hypothetically right, anyway.)

I've also never dated anyone (that I can remember, anyway) who didn't wear glasses.

9. Yes, I like that too
My husband and all the other guys that I have been most attracted to after the age of 16 have been highly intelligent and "different" from the status quo, thinking for themselves.

2. It sounds like you are turned on by intelligence
I see nothing wrong with that. I wish more people were that way.

An English professor that I had for class last quarter was what I consider to be exceptionally talented at her job. I would go into her class feeling tired and come out of it feeling energized. She really made the class fun with her wit and intelligence. She really turned me on.

4. Oh, I see nothing wrong with it either.
Just an observation. Something about myself I'd temporarily forgotten, although I always say someone has to be smart and funny for me to want him.

5. Scars. Seriously. If a woman has a small scar on her chin, or hand...
My interest is sparked.

I tend to interpret the scar as a kind of wisdom gained through experience -- it could have been from a childhood fall, or a close-call teenage accident, etc., but the wound probably involved some pain and medical attention. There's a story to that scar, and I am intrigued.

Well, I see I'm way overdue for another hour on the analyst's couch!

10. Men who look like John Malkovich
Big lips, elf ears, eyes that are a little too close together.

Also -- a propensity for belting out impromptu showtunes.

But I have had great luck with men who possess his features. They always seem to be accompanied by a wonderful sensitivity and quirkiness.

How do you know him, BTW?

12. Smarts, Baldness, Hands, Forthrightness
I have no idea what it means, but I know just what you're talking about. Smart men turn me on immensely. That kind of makes sense, though, right? The weird thing is baldness. For some reason I notice them more often and find that I'm attracted to balding or bald men. I just don't get it.

And hands... the way men use/move their hands. Or if they're up-front. I really like that as well. Never could get along with the wishy-washy type. But a guy who stands up and says what he thinks I warm up to pretty quickly.

Neat thread. :)

17. many things... like ive always liked a bit of geek in girls...
...maybe due to the intellegence factor, if i cant have an intellegent conversation with somone, i have nothing to say to that person period, also the whole 'good girl' thing is kinda appealing to me too for some reason. that and i dont like people that are too perfect, anything perfect is lying, i need at LEAST a small flaw to know im looking at a real person.

45. Make it 3
I LOVE when my wife dons her glasses.

Also, Tina Fey, Jennifer Garner w/glasses, basically any women with glasses. I guess it makes them look studious and intelligent. If a woman opens her mouth and repeatedly says something stupid, then bye-bye attraction.

44. I like men that are more introverted
I prefer very smart people who are friendly and comfortable one on one, but please, the loudmouth with the lampshade on his head is not my type. I'm not shy really, and I have no problem talking to people and have even been on stage at certain times in my life without problem, but I'm much more of an introvert myself and don't like to be put on the spot or embarrassed by someone.
