5. I'll second that...
...I have those memories too. Every once in a while I'll buy a can and eat half at a time (check the label)...and the canned stuff is EXPENSIVE, too! It normally goes for 5 bucks a can so I never buy it unless it's on sale. Safeway carries Mary Kitchen (Hormel):

6. One of the diners in the area serves up a beef hash as dry as the Gobi
and tops it with a poached egg -- mmmmmm.

7. OMZ, hash must be sending out vibes thru the universe these weeks!1
In the past few weeks I've done what the O.P. says, about twice, after YEARS of not using it. I don't do Hormel, despite that the (owner?) is a Dem, was appointed by CLINTON as ambassador? The time I tried it it was WAY too greasy. I do the Libby's, which is SOMEwhat less so. The last trip, brought back Armor's, which I haven't tried yet.

Anyway, everything tasted better in childhood. I BURN it in a pan as much as possible, with the dried crust, but the stuff is so greasy I have given in and not getting it burned and dried enough.

9. Slightly crusty is the way I like it too... prefer the brands that come from Argentina
the original home of tinned corned beef...

8. I love that stuff (although my waistline doesn't)
We have a diner nearby that has it down to a science - to the extent that anything happening in a diner kitchen can be called 'science'. :)

I'll be there Thursday and you've just guided my choice...

11. Coffee, corned beef hash, eggs over easy, whole wheat toast
My breakfast of choice back in the days. My favorite joint was first rate, they had both strawberry jam and marmalade in jelly jars on the tables, plus all the daily newspapers at an arms reach. The owner used to work for Sally Stanford, his name was Fred.
