Stolen cardboard cop resurfaces, but worse for wear

The cardboard Margate cop that vanished last week in broad daylight was recovered early Monday outside a Margate shopping center.

"There was some damage," conceded Margate police spokesman Chip Kolenda. "I don't want to be specific because it's still under investigation. We're not releasing any photographs at this time."

"Dannequin" the radar-gun holding mannequin, disappeared last Thursday shortly after appearing on a TV news segment. He turned up around 4:30 a.m. on Monday, outside a shopping center at 5400 W. Atlantic Blvd., where he was apparently dumped, police said.

Created from a life-size photo of Officer Dan Baumwoll, Dannequin is typically positioned next to a police cruiser to encourage motorists to slow down.

"It's always chained, but it's bolted to a stand. They left the bolts behind," Kolenda said
