To the Du music community, those who know the Silver City, Grant Co. NM scene
A great friend of the area music passed away this morning.

Jason Hammond, http://www.barefootstudio.org/.

Over the years I've known Jason he has always welcomed musicians (pro and amateur alike) into his home. His house is legendary for the Friday night jam sessions, as well as the studio he was developing.

My band was slated to do some recording this spring, but decided to postpone the session until fall in order to get our shit together a bit better..

"Jason was like the glue that brought us all together on the nights that we weren't gigging with our respective bands. Thanks to him, everyone played with everyone and we all became better musicians for it. His passion was to have live music in his home and his door was always open. Hopefully we will all carry this vibe with us and continue to keep the music family together"...JerryB

My best wishes go out to Gina, and all the people, like me, whom Jason touched and spread a little of his joy with.

1. My deepest symapathies to you and Jason's family and all who loved him
I was not familiar with him, but I suspect that I have friends who are. I myself have played in Silver City a couple of times; at the Buffalo Dance Hall about 7 years ago (?) with the Big Kahuna (who also passed away not long ago) R&B band, as well as a couple of times about 10 years ago at the Hanover Outpost with Tobias Rene . I also have friends that are from that area (Silver and Bayard etc) and since that's an area where everyone seems to know everyone else, I'm guessing they knew him. ( Especially my old UNM roommate and dear friend Dave Serna who ,along with his brother, Rick, were musicians in their younger days growing up there) I'm guessing Ken and Jeanie from Bayou Seco are among those that knew him too...( I don't know them well, but visited them when I played with Kahuna, with our drummer who is old friends of theirs). One of my best friends (Chris Dracup) is a regular at the Blues festival there too, and will let both he and Dave, know of this in case they and Jason crossed paths through that event or just from being involved in music there way back when, and still having many local ties, in Dave's case. Again, didn't mean to mention so many names, but being involved in music yourself there, I thought perhaps you might know some of the people I mentioned and want to once again, express my condolences on the passing of your friend, who sounds like he was one hell of a great guy.
