although my daughter isn't a fan of Bailey waking her up by jumping on her chest and licking her face. I feel a little bad sometimes for encouraging it...it's just sooo funny. :D

He's a Brussels Griffon and they're often likened to Ewoks. When I adopted my first BG, Meneken, my friend said he looked like an Ewok. I said that I thought he looked more like a Furby, so I took pix... ;)

How wonderful for both of them. There is nothing like a bond between a child and a pet, a terrific life experience for both of them. And though I know how much you must miss your Birdie - I've been there and sure understand - it appears that Olive has also bonded with your daughter, and you can't ask for a happier ending than that...

31. Indeed
When one door closes another opens. I'm watching Olive with great interest, since she's the same breed mix as Birdie was. I'm being careful to not hold Birdie's yardstick up to her but if she turns out to be half the dog Birdie was, I may have found the perfect crossbreed. :)

Olive was meant to find you, and vice versa. And I think it's true that we all gravitate towards the same sort of pets, certainly for a reason. Mine seem to find me, and I've previously adopted senior dogs from rescue (except for Jack, who found me at five months...), but I've never once been disappointed... :)

On edit: In case you missed him up-thread, here's my Jack: :loveya:

83. They certainly are personalities...
I've had two BGs, both rescue, believe it or not. They're definitely unusual, have seen only one other in real life, besides mine. My breed was cockers, grew up with one ;), and I've had four in my life. But when I called about a cocker up for adoption, I was told that this dog had been placed, but there was another dog that needed a home ASAP. His elderly owner had died. That was my little Meneken, my eight pound wonder, and the rest is history... :)

Meneken :loveya:

Losing her Birdie has been really hard on her but it looks like the new pup is helping to take the sting out of it somewhat.

What breed is she? I think it's cute the way you named your dogs with names ending in "ic".
My favorite great aunt had a white dog that looked like Sonic. She named her 'Nutsy' as a pup, but when the dog got older and calmer she changed it to 'Nutsy-Whimsey', and then just 'Whimsey'. I think she was part Whippet.

Short for "two days", which is how long my hubby gave me to find her a different home.
Twody is a trip. She brings me bugs, rodents, and worms! We have an outdoor run, accessible through a pet door. Not allowed to roam free; but that doesn't deter her.

She's two years old now, and absolutely the strangest feline I have come across.

58. Here are 5 of our 6
Our 21 and a half year old boxer/? mix, Jack. I have posted about him a few times. He was born with one eye. He has cancer. His back legs are getting weak. He is going blind in his one eye, and going deaf. But he is still strong and happy and not in any apparent pain. So we keep him happy, and keep him going, and he keeps giving us love every day.

We know he is mostly boxer. Almost definitely some pit bull in him. Beyond that, breed unknown.

Millie Dear, never leaves my bedroom. She is the reclusive cat. My beautiful tuxedo cat who sings and chirps to me every chance she gets.

Silver. The Alpha of the house. He has a twin brother, Gray, who died of cancer years ago. They were inseparable until Gray died. I think Silver still misses his brother as much as I do. :(

Here is a rare picture of all three dogs together. There is my JennaLaw holding Coco, our Chihuahua, who is my own personal little stalker. In the middle is Molly, a Pug/Chihuahua/Italian Greyhound mix who charms everyone she meets. And Then there is Jack pressing his head into my hands to get his cheek and ear scratched some more. :)

We have one more cat, Dora, who broke into our back porch over the winter and INSISTED on moving in with us. She is the loudest, most acrobatic, most playful of all the animals, which is only appropriate given that she is the youngest. I don't have a picture of her in my photobucket account. So I can't show you her. I'll have to correct that soon. :P

76. In part, yes.
:)

She was named Dora because she was, and is, an incredible explorer. She found her way into our back porch in the middle of the winter, and moved in.

But also, we're members of a Harry Potter themed meetup group. So she is also named after NyphaDORA Tonks, one of the characters in the Harry Potter Books.

And, it's also just short for her being aDORAble.

We had a contest to name her, and that name won because it was the most chosen name from all the ones people offered. It was the multipurpose name. :)

93. He will be 22 in a few months if he hangs on.
:)

So far he's doing well. Every day he trots to every food bowl, enjoys a good pee and poop, and gets lots of love. Then he takes lots of naps. What more could an old dog want. :loveya:

We are keeping a close eye on him day by day though. As much as we love him, we don't want to hold him here past the point where he's in pain and struggling if he gets to that point.

So far, one painkiller a day as a preventive measure seems to be all he needs to keep him comfortable. He can still walk up and down stairs on his own most of the time if we let him, Though we carry him most of the time just to be safe because he is getting weak. Letting him take the stairs on his own is a bit risky.

As I mentioned above, he eats regular dry commercial dog food, wet and dry commercial cat food, lots of dog treats, chopped meat, and peanut butter. :)

60. adorable, almost enough to make me want a dog!
sadly, my three cats might not agree...

we call this one "special needs kitty", she was not gifted with superior intellect:

this one is "spare parts kitty" as she looks like she was assembled from leftover bits at the kitty factory (doing her Peter Lorre imitation)

and this one is "the creeper" due to her habit of slinking around and popping up out of nowhere to scare the hell out of you...

61. Our two Fur babies....
Both of ours are mutts...We think Ginger is a German Shepherd/Sharpei mix and Julie a Black Lab/?terrier mix.

Ginger, will be 10 this November. She has arthritis in her lower back and is having issues with mobility right now. But she's still elfrangel's baby girl.

Julie, turned 8 in April. She is our neurotic puppy...goes ballistic at the silliest things (like :P raspberries). She's my girl though. :)

Ginger & Julie - together on the couch in younger days.

67. What beauties!
:loveya:

I am sorry your Ginger is having arthritis and mobility issues. We have to deal with that every day too, carrying our Jack in my lap in my wheelchair (when he lets me) or having JennaLaw carry him.

It's not easy dealing with a dog with pain and mobility issues.

Your Ginger looks bigger and heavier than our Jack, so I can't imagine you have it easy. :(

62. Sally zonked out with her 4 legs and tail together like stems in a bouquet

We have a game where I throw one of her tennis balls in an unpredictable direction from the back steps. I say ,"Yes! yes!", if she's headed in the right direction, and, "No! No!", if she's not moving toward the ball's location.
She will put the ball 1' from my feet, and if I say, "Closer!", she picks it up and drops it almost on my foot.
When she brings the ball to me if I tell her to put it in a plant saucer, or other shallow container, she learns to do that every time with just a few tries.
If I toss the ball into a big empty plasic trash can, she knocks the can over with gusto, and walks inside to retrieve the ball.
A smart, funny, and loveable girl, our Sally.

And what a smart girl she is. What breed is she? My niece has a couple of Blue Heelers and they look similar to Sally... they are also very smart.

80. Sally is a Heeler - Border Collie mix
Edited on Fri Aug-20-10 12:29 PM by marzipanni
It seems this combo often looks like a McNab Border Collie (short coated branch of the border collie breed ) with merle or speckles on the parts that would be white on a border collie. Those speckles sure do indicate heeler in the mix!

on edit- an interesting page about those speckles-ticking and roan markings- of various breeds-

85. Thanks, ThomCat, You're right, she Needs to "work"
We adopted her as a 2-year-old who had already been rescued from an abusive person, then accepted by the SPCA from her rescuer due to illness.
We live in an area with sheep ranches out in the rural areas, but the SPCA people rejected ranchers who said they would have left her outside all the time, in favor of someone who would let her be in the house. She probably would have loved herding sheep so we try to give her something to do!

Your gang is adorable! Jack is such a cute old gentleman dog, and according to one way of calculating, he's 138 in human years! May I ask what he eats?

92. Jack eats anything and everything he wants.
We're trying hard to keep his weight up.

He eats commercial dry dog food. But he prefers to eat the cat's food, both dry and canned. He happily raids the cat food dishes several times per day.

At this point the cats just move over and let him. The mostly just consider him a very large cat that smells funny. :)

We also give him several types of commercial dog treats. And we give him fresh chopped meats daily, and his favorite, a large glob of peanut butter to lick off my finger once per day too. :9

99. Olive is just the opposite
It's "mine mine mine" with all the toys. She's learning that as pack leader "all toys are my toys" and she gets to play with them when I, or a higher ranking pack member let's her play with them. She doesn't like it bit she's been allowed to get away with too much and I have to take her to task. She's a bright girl though, she will learn quickly. :)

82. Here's my best buddy Sandy!
I work overnights, so she sleeps with me during the day and in the evening. As soon as I get home she knows it's nap time. Rubs her head against my leg as I give her nice scratches, then it's off to bed!
It's a good thing.

87. You don't have to ask me twice
Here are some recent pictures of my cat, Summer. She's part Siamese, which is why her eyes are so purty. :)

Outside, looking without much luck for grass to munch on. The angle makes her look at lot chunkier than she is--she actually weighs just over 11 pounds.

Inside on my lap, batting her eyes to get me to give her treats. (It worked, btw.)

Outside, watching intently a bird that had landed a few feet away:

95. Summer is a beauty, she has snow leopard coloring
in stripes instead of spots! I just googled snow leopard images and discovered the babies have blue eyes until they're 4 months old when they start turning yellow.

96. Summer thanks you for the compliment
:)

The really odd thing is that she started off with stripes on just her legs, face, and tail, and now she's striped all over. Here she is when I brought her home 2-1/2 years ago--notice how faint her body stripes are.
