How many of Connery's Bond movies were actually good?

Here's the list:

Dr. No
From Russia With Love
Goldfinger
Thunderball
You Only Live Twice
Diamonds Are Forever
Never Say Never Again

Now how many of these would you consider above-average actioners?

Personally, I only enjoyed the first three. Lean, mean little spy thrillers, those.

1. YOLT was probably the worst

Plot holes you could drive a truck through, though I like it as a guilty pleasure.

2. I was young. There was not much else to do in those days.

I was under age and saw Goldfinger with my mother. There was no internet to play with in those days, so, why not. No hundreds of channels on a big screen tv.
Later on, when I got involved with those of the female persuasion, I had much to do, but they had to go to school or work sometime, so why not a Bond movie.
He did have a certain savoir faire. Not as much as Valerie Plame, and not the real kind like hers, but some.
Only later did it come out that he approved of slapping women around.
So I guess they were all ok.
Plot. Plot is fiction here, no question.

3. I'd go for the first four, and I agree, the last ones not really worth the time.
Especially Never Say Never Again. My God, what a shitbomb that is. Even worse than Moonraker, and that's saying something.

4. In order:
Goldfinger
From Russia, with Love
Dr. No
Diamonds are Forever
Thunderball
You Only Live Twice
Never Say Never Again

I agree that there's a drop-off after the first three on this list. I think FRwL might be better than Goldfinger; it's very intense and well-paced. Diamonds are Forever is noteworthy for Mr. Kidd and Mr. Wint, who make interesting minions/villains - and of course Plenty O'Toole.
