Russell Edgington for President!!!!!! (TB Spoilers!)
Let's face it - he knows what to do with those weak spiny wimps who report the news!!!!

I defy ANY of you to find a better choice than Russell Edgington! And you know he's committed to the rights of same sex couple - just see how devoted he still is to his love of 700 years, Talbot. Even though Tablot is now a puddle of gory goo being carried around in an URN

And FRANKLIN

He would have been best choice for Vice President. No one fucks with Franklin - except Jason with wooden bullets.

1. Russell for POTUS!
Seriously, we need a man willing to burst in and punch his fist through the body cavity of his opponents and "de-spine" them on national TV. Wow, that was some scene. He is clearly losing it. Eric may get his revenge now that the (I hope) powerful vampires will be forced to deal with Russell.

What a waste of a great character with Franklin. He was AMAZING. James Frain should win an emmy for that role. He was great. I am sad to see him go. He had just the right blend of psycho and heart.

We need to announce what Sookie is already. Its ridiculous to keep dragging it out.

I say Eric be the VP. It might make for some tough cabinent meeting what with Eric staking the POTUS's lover and all, but that would be a great ticket.

2. How about Nan Flanigan for VP
You have to love the hypocrisy of Nan Flanigan. She talks about how much True Blood is the reason for everything and how she just loves drinking True Blood. Then you get in the limo and there is Nan drinking on the inner thigh vein of the blood of some uber-buxon girl. Even she knows True Blood tastes like shit.

3. She reminds me of Mary Matalin, in so many ways.
Still, I find her vileness oddly attractive. I was sorry to see Talbot and Franklin go although, honestly, Rutina Wesley must be exhausted after every episode-- poor Tara can't catch a break. I still love Jessica and was glad to see her come to Sookie's defense while getting her own vamp freak on in the previos episode. And that little terrier Tommy sure has a cute ass. He seemed fascinated when Sam went all apeshit on Calvin, Crystal's father. I agree that they need to stop dragging out the revelation about what Sookie is, but it's certainly being done in the best soap opera tradition.

4. After last night I think I'm ready to see Tommy go 'buh-bye'
That whole storyline just hasn't made much sense to me. I mean it's nice to see that Sam has family and a bit of background in the shapeshifters, but it has dragged on so fricking long and bored me to tears.

When I watch True Blood again 'On-Demand' I fast forward thru the Mickens storyline.

6. Its not well thought out
I think they needed to keep Sam involved this season, but its not a good story. I am ready to move on from the Mickens.

Anyone think that Jesus is not 100% human? I like that tattoo.

Nan is awesome. I love her. I also love that vamps seem to only feed on hot young buxom women. You would think fat guys like me would taste better, lot of sugar and fat in our diet, then these models with implants. But I guess the image of Nan vamping on my groin would not be a ratings grabber. At least not like a good sookie shower scene. (as I drool)

11. I thought the same thing...
I also remember reading somewhere that jaguars have a history (way way back) in Hispanic culture. Don't know if that part will tie in.

18. Santeria
Edited on Tue Aug-17-10 01:22 PM by Dogtown
or some creole equivalent. Very similar to Vodun (known in crude colloquialism as VooDoo).

Vodun has a French Catholic flavor from its Haitian evolution. Santeria is primarily a Cuban phenomenon, but is found throughout the Gulf countries and its African roots have been influenced by Spanish Catholicism. The Mexican equivalent has Mayan influences as well.

All these religions are derived from slave culture and are rooted in West African religious practices. Catholicism, forced on the slaves in French, Spanish, and Portuguese colonies was very adaptable because the minor deity aspect of saint-worship dovetailed with the pantheon of their own native religions.

The "altar" in Lafayette's crib (which seems to be a mere conceit on L's part) is telling. Jesus is very knowledgeable of the lesser deities displayed and the various rites and offerings that are acceptable.

I think Jesus has a dark side of necromancy that will be exposed next episode.

19. You can tell that True Blood is starting to setup season #4 with a new brand of Supe *spoilers*
Holly, the new waitress at Merlottes, is a character that definately comes from the books and I'm guessing she'll have more impact in season #4 than season #3.

Now remember that Lafayette was killed at the end of Book #1, but because Nelsan Ellis did such an amazing job of brining Lafayette to life the True Blood writers felt they would keep him around and kill of someone else instead. (which btw was someone who was a so-called VooDoo expert but turned out to be a fake). So for the TV show - Lafayette is a blank slate that they can work some great storyline since Ellis is such a talented actor. Jesus and Lafayette's mother are not a part of the books so who knows what will happen with this storyline but I hope it's 100% more interesting than Sam Merlotte and the Mickens.

I like how the writers for the show try to follow some semblance of the books. But if they only stuck to the books then the show would lose some of it's hype as to "What will happen Next". So the writers find new things to create like season #2 Maenad's story. There was a Maenad in season #2 but hardly the storyline you saw in the TV show.

21. Funny you mention that!
I was just thnking about the startling amount of fakes boobs I have been seeing on TB and "Hung" and "Entourage". The stripper who Bill procured for Russell -- jeez, you even got to see the implant bag wrinkles in one shot. On the last episode of "Hung" his pimp (the redhead, not the lyric bread one) has one of the worst boob jobs I have seen -- so unnaturally high and tight she could wear them as a necklace. :puke: I have to say I actually applauded when we got a topless shot of Tommy's playmate -- a pair of big, genuine, sligtly droopy boobs! It kind of made up for all the plastic.

23. Yes he is!
And he has given us the closest to full frontal from any of the men on the show. The feminist in me was getting kind of irritating with that -- plenty from the gals but they were playing too coy with the fellas. I am really liking the actor playing Tommy -- he is really bringing the sense of danger and lack of control needed for the character.

and he confesses in the Rolling Stone article that he refuses to wear a sock over it.

28. "...he refuses to wear a sock over it. "
Good for him! I have always though the whole "sock" thing was ridiculous. I once did a shoot where a male actor wore a kind of "merkin" -- it had the pubes, just hid the naughty bits. Silly, silly, silly. :eyes: Glad to see Skarsgard acting like an adult -- it's all that Swedish nekkidness he loves so much. :D

I think we have seen some []b]very graphic full frontal from several of the females on the show -- Miss Estonia and the Nazi were are two I am remembering offhand-- and Marshall as Tommy has come closest with the guys in this last episode. I have always hated that double standard in film.

I remember Meryl Streep was all set to be cast in the remake of "The Postman Always Rings Twice" with Nicholson. The script called for some very graphic sex scenes, including one in which Nicholson was to place his hand directly on the character's naked groin area. Meryl said she would be happy to do the script and the scene if Nicholson had to be just as naked and have his groin area shown as well. :D He wouldn't and she didn't do the film. I did love her pointing out the Hollywood double standard placed on nudity and women.

8. His toss to the weather girl was an EPIC WIN!!
One of the best bits of TV ever! :D :applause: Dennis O'Hare is fuckiing AMAZING in the role and he MUST be honored in some way. To watch him is an absolute pleasure. I loved how he turned around Talbot's urn so he could "see" Nan and crew entering Fangtasia.

I really liked last night's episode a lot. Will have to watch it again and revisit this thread.

24. It's a great board --
but be prepared -- many there are genre fans first, TB fans second. You will find posters getting into the most absurd arguments about what is "correct" vamp/were dogma, and endlessly comparing the show to other vamp/supe programs ("Buffy" especially).

I am a TB fan and tend to stick with posts that stay on that topic specifically. There's a lot of great information/insight to find there, and it is my first stop after a new episode.

22. Could be gold.
I did a little checking:

"Apart from iron and bronze, the Saxons and Vikings made use of other metals, mainly for jewellery. The most widely used of those used were silver, pewter and gold."

http://www.regia.org/othermetalwork.htm

Since he was a royal, his family may have had the luxury of having a gold crown.

25. it doesn't shine like gold or bronze or brass, does not have that yellow
sheen to it. It can't be silver because Eric can hold it without getting burned. I don't know why this little technicality bugged me. I think it must be pewter.

20. OK, watched it again --
What an episode! Much to digest and will watch it again just because I liked it so much. :) Some things that really caught my attention:

Bill lying to Sookie about why he had a file on her. Here was his perfect opportunity to come clean about his being send by the Queen and he still continues the charade. Is it because he feared being unable to convince Sookie that even though he was sent by the Queen on a mission he truly is now in love with her, or because he is still working for the Queen (forget pledging fealty to Russell) and that remains his primary mission?

Sam finally loses his shit. I felt this character developement was kind of forced a bit, but I think it will allow us to see more of his backstory. The shot with Tara looking appalled and Tommy looking amazed during the beatfest was a good one. Meanwhile Tommy was sowing some seriously wild oates there. :D Sam has a out of control teen on his hand -- and now he's dealing with his own demons.

I loved Ruby commenting on Laf's mask being off -- certainly it was much more than him simply being without his make-up. Also loved the nod to the Fred Plelps crew with the "Maybe God loves fags!" line from Ruby. I love Jesus so far -- he seems so strong and compassionate. I have no idea where that charcetr is going -- if he is supe or just human -- but I am really liking his presence. I'll have to start blessing my veggie Jello now. :D

Crystal -- geez, I now she's a battered woman and all but damned I was so pissed she just trashed Jason like that -- a rapist?? Jason is dumb as a post sometimes, and is annoying with his cop wannabe thing he is doing, but I still love him and love the actor. The look between Andy and Jason when Rosie was professing her secret love for Kevin was priceless.

Nan Flannagan vs. Pam: Pam wins with that one lift of her eyebrow in response to Nan's "whatever she is". Was Pam wearing pink Uggs?? Nan - just another hypocritical political animal -- say one thing in public (True Blood only!) and then practice something else in private (her limo snack).

So Eric has cart blanche now to kill Russell anyway he can. That is, before Russell finds him and smokes his ass. Wow, I think this could get really good -- maybe we will get to see a pretty hardcore vamp vs. vamp smackdown. Will it come down to cunning isntead of brute vamp strength? Eric may be outclassed on both fronts.

I will miss Franklin somethhing fierce -- I wish they could have found a way to keep his crazy ass on the show but, for poor Tara's sake, it had to be done. Nice to see Tara get her groove back with the verbal lashing she gave ol' Franklin. Looks like we will see her start to move beyond angry/bitter/untrusting Tara to a fuller, healed version of herself.

Can't wait for the next three episodes!

26. Some additional thoughts (and spoilers)
I watched it again last night.

Sam knows what those trashy Hot Shot folks are because he can smell them before they even come in the bar. In fact that one guy the 'father' of Crystal knew that Sam was a shapeshifter. Shifters are different from Weres because shifters can be any animal they want whereas weres are stuck with just one animal. I think tying in the Merlotte/Mickens store with the Feltons from HotShot might give some life back to that whole storyline.

Lafayette and Jesus are the 'Hoyt and Jessica' of season #3 (and btw please give me more Hoyt & Jessica!). And because there is absolutely no Lafayette story in the books after the first book (he was suppose to be in Andy Bellefluer's car the end of season #1, not Miss Jeannette), Alan Ball can do whatever he wants with Lafayette. It makes me wonder if Jesus is a Were (because of the Panther Tattoo) or some sort of Witch/Wiccan (what's coming for season #4). And please - MORE RUBY-JEAN!

Seriously, how Hoyt can sit there and play nice with Summer and DOLLS??!!! What kind of crackpot nut job woman carries DOLLS around at age 25? I mean Summer is so loopy she should be sharing a room with Ruby-Jean in the nuthouse. I know they are eventually going to bring Hoyt and Jessica back together but I kept hoping that Mama Fortenberry would meddling in Hoyt's life again because you know Summer is the perfect woman for Hoyt in the eyes of his mama. But then again Mama Fortenberry just wants someone alive that can give her grandkids, not some baby vamp.

Franklin, Talbot and Cooter were some of the best new characters for season #3 and I'm really sad to see them go. I was kinda hoping that the bullet didn't totally kill Cooter (no clue if it was Silver). And it's nice that Talbot is still 'alive' even if just as a big old urn of vampire goop that Russell carries around with him. I've read where Russell will be back for season #4 and that makes me HAPPY HAPPY.

Can we please find Tara a boyfriend who has absolutely nothing to do whatsoever with supes! If I were Tara I'd ask Bill to glamour her so she would forget the existance of Eggs and Franklin.

I'm excited about Holly joining the cast although she really is just a pre-cursor for season #4 just like they did with Maryann at the end of season #1. I wish they'd give just a little bit more airtime to Arlene and Terry, I loved it the other week when Arlene dreamed about snuggling with Rene.

Can we please have more naked Eric - thank you!
