4. I had always heard "Blazing Saddles" got an X before certain scenes were edited.
That Madeline Kahn scene was pretty hot for the day.

How about "Fritz the Cat"?

12. Probably still should be.
That movie is disturbing and I can't think of anyone under the age of 18 who should be viewing it.

14. I saw it when I was 16 in 1971
...my boyfriend at the time was 6'2" and I'm 6'1", so our biggest thrill was getting into R and X rated movies without anyone questioning us. We saw Women in Love, Midnight Cowboy, and Clockwork Orange. Yes, the latter was hard to watch, and I saw it again when I was in my mid-20's but even though I NEVER want to sit through it again, the social statement it made was incredibly powerful. The hideous rape scene was meant to turn your stomach; so many are completely gratuitous but this is supposed to disgust the viewer.

So you're probably right: under 17 is too young to see this film, but I can attest it didn't do me any permanent psychological harm.

16. I will never watch it
I have been able to avoid it all these years. I hate watching people suffer, in real life or if it's simulated in a movie. It just makes me sick.

17. I wouldn't recommend it.
It is a movie about hyper violent rapists. Not entertaining.

11. The Last House on the Left (1972 film)
The Last House on the Left is a 1972 rape and revenge film written and directed by Wes Craven and produced by Sean S. Cunningham.
The story is based on the 13th century Swedish ballad "Töres dotter i Wänge", which was also adapted into the 1960 Swedish film The Virgin Spring, directed by Ingmar Bergman.

13. 9 1/2 Weeks.
IMO, the most obvious "should have gotten an X-rating" film ever to be approved for a mainstream audience.

Runner up: Color of Night. Other runner up: Basic Instinct.

19. Behind the Green Door
and Deep Throat. Both films released in 1972 during a short-lived period hip people considered viewing porno chic.

20. Easy Rider was rated X. My poor dad had to come tell them
at the theater that my friends and I could go in.
