9. There were a whole slew of "Kudzu" threads here about four years ago.

Someone posted something saying "I'm bullish about (I forget what the original was)! It's going places!" The Lounge cloned it as a thread called "I'm bullish about kudzu! It's going places!" with a graphic showing the spread of Kudzu throughout the American South.

It ran on forever. Then got locked.

Then another kudzu thread sprung up, since as everyone knows you can't kill kudzu easily. As it died, another came along. Then another and another.

The original Kudzu thread had the longest post count in DU history before "Please remove" sprung up. And if DU's servers hadn't been overwhelmed by traffic in the summer of 2007, I think "Please remove" might still be going on. I was lucky enough to capture it between Elad's locking it and finally reclaiming the ginormous amount of disk space it was claiming.

I don't know if anyone saved the original "Kudzu" but a few of the copycat copycats can be found through Google.

10. Thanks for the backstory

Newbies like me hear things but usually try to figure them out on our own (or at least I do). For example I picked up on the Walt Starr thing shortly after I got here in April but learned 'the rest of the story' sometime in June when someone posted a link and an explanation to another poster. I don't want to be too much of an annoying dork with lots of questions, but I do get curious. So thanks!

Sounds like the Kudzu thing must have been alot of fun too. The fact that it's hard to kill IRL and kept springing up again here. Pretty funny stuff! So to with the 'Please Remove'... I'm glad you saved it. :-)

Well, I missed those things but at least got in on this little piece of DU history. What a riot some of those posts are; and it's nice to see everyone setting aside their differences for a little bit of Friday fun. But you never know... if the mods let it stand for awhile, maybe we'll see some deleted sub-threads on the Deleted Sub Thread OP!... BTW 'Name Removed' is now on my buddy list. lol!
