Some of you may know that my oldest daughter has been waiting for a kidney for 10 years. Last night we finally got the call that we had been waiting for, a donor kidney became available. She had surgery last night to implant the new kidney. Things went well at first but by this morning there still wasn't any sign that the new kidney was functioning. Because she had extremely low blood pressure and an elevated potassium level they felt that there might be something physically wrong with the kidney so they did another surgery this morning. Everything looked fine so they closed her back up. It appears that she is rejecting the new kidney so they've started doing pheresis to remove some antibodies. The hope is that this will allow her new kidney to start working.
