Ever hid something, and forgot where you hid it?

I hid my journal and now I forgot where I hid it. I hate it when that happens!

I guess it'll turn up eventually...

2. I usually put something in a place where I'll always know exactly where
to find it, and then I never see it again.

Me, to Miz t.:
"I'm gonna put this right here in (on) HERE. Let's be sure and remember where we put it, OK?"
She: "OK".

A week later:
"Where the hell did I put the (whatever)?"
"You don't remember?"

4. From whom were you hiding it?
Isn't it frustrating when one part of the brain outwits another!
I feel so smart thinking of a good hiding place :) ... until my brain can't come up with the same hiding place when I want to find that hidden thing. :(
Next time maybe I'll jot it on my calendar, the central place where I keep track of my son's school forms, etc.

5. I was hiding it from my sister when she came to visit me.

If you have a personal journal, and somebody else knows of it and has the opportunity, they will read it. Trust me on this one.

Only exception: One of my uncles, whom I don't believe would even open a composition book labeled, "My secret fantasies about farm animals."

6. My mother--when she was in her 80's--hid an opal ring I'd given her.
It finally turned up in a medicine bottle with cotton stuffed on top of it. Almost was thrown
out when she was moving for the last time into a nursing home.

9. My in-laws did things like that.
We cleaned out their house when FIL was going to a nursing home. They had cash hidden in pots and pans, old purses, other crazy places. :eyes:

He took it upon himself to have a house sale (without us) -- lord know what kinds of "treasures" people walked away with.

11. Not hidden things and had that happen, but place things "where I'll be sure to remember"
instead of just keeping it in the regular place it's supposed to be in, and then forget where the "more easily remembered location" is.

14. Racoon, I once misplaced my car keys - I was running around the house.
looking everywhere for them, worried I would be late for work....they were in my left hand.

I don't work anymore - I'm better now....

22. Had a similar experience. I ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS put my car keys
in a certain drawer.

One evening, I couldn't find them there.

I nearly pulled my hair out from frustration, looking and looking for those keys....

Found them in ANOTHER drawer. :grr: Well, at least I found them.

and it would be gone and turn up in the strangest place!

16. Yep, my Social Security card, for one.
I took it out of my wallet and put it away because I was afraid I'd lose it. Then I lost my job and needed it to file for unemployment, and couldn't find it. I had to go get a copy of my birth certificate from the state, but I was able to file. Then I ordered a new SS card, and it's not left my wallet since.

Oh, and I found the original copy two weeks after I got the new one...figures....

21. I hid 2 ipods, nevermind why
and was absolutely sure I'd remember where I'd put them...until I wanted them a few days later and could not find the damn things. I spent several hours looking for them over the next week or so and then just gave up, really pissed at myself. 2 months later I was doing some cleaning and found them.

24. I think I hid a lid of grass, back in the '70's
But I cannot remember where it is. I was hoping to burn some of it as a private "retirement party". I guess I could buy some, but have no idea how to get it or what to pay these days.

Maybe it'll turn up.

25. My mother, being a child of the Depression
era, hid money, especially in her very large amount of books (her mother was the local librarian for over 50 yrs.). When she passed, we all said all we wanted were her books.

26. Yep. 3 weeks ago we got home from a 10 day vacation...
before we left we 'hid' keys to 2 cars and the tractor. Got home, could not find them. tore the house apart. Drove to my office looked there, had a vague memory of 'no one can break into my office and get the keys,' but they werent' there. Back home started methodically pulling our bedroom apart, we have a good hidey hole there. Finally gave up. About an hour later, I'm standing in the kitchen and for some unknown reason, with no conscious thought, opened a cabinet and stuck my hand in a large serving bowl on the shelf. There they were.

Absolutely no clear memory of putting them there. But I will never forget in the future.

30. There was a great story on NPR a couple years back about a guy who bought old gold jewelry
sorta a hobby, thought he'd give it to his niece when she went off to college

ended up with a box of it. decided one day, "y'know, maybe i oughta hide this"

put it somewhere nobody'd ever think to look

stopped collecting for a few years. one day, wonders "where did i hide all that jewelry?" looks everywhere. can't find it. wracks his brain

then he remembers the day his good buddy came by and said "ya ought clean out your garage? why are you keeping all these old cans of dried up paint?" so they cleaned the garage and tossed the old cans

and it hits him ... where he put the jewelry ... why nobody would think to look there ... and why he can't find it now ...
