Poll question: Can People in GD Forum Take a Joke?
Edited on Sun Aug-01-10 11:55 AM by OrwellwasRight
So I just posted a post over there that was so over the top I really didn't feel that I needed to inform people that it was sarcasm. Basically stuff that no one would say. Seriously, no one would say. I was promptly rebuked for my "point of view." Have the GD posters gone so completely overboard that they can't even see when somebody is playing a joke? Or was it just me? Every time I venture out beyond the Lounge, I come running back due to the lack of both civil discussion and a sense of humor, so I want to ask you, the Loungers, the people who do have a sense of humor, "Is it just me or can the folks who post in GD take a joke?"

1. It's hard to tell what no one on DU would say nowadays.
They support the war, workcamps for the homeless, overseas assassinations, they oppose gay marriage. Hell, they are defending High Fructose Corn Syrup like it's the second coming of Christ, and criticize Monsanto and you'd think you'd just said you are setting out to destroy the American Way of Life from the reactions it gets.

I didn't see your post, but I honestly don't know what could be more over the top than the things people say here and seem to believe.

2. LMAO!
OK, ok.

"workcamps for the homeless"?

"High Fructose Corn Syrup like it's the second coming of Christ,"?

I had no idea.

Well, that's why it is no fun out there any more.

I had to hit alert yesterday on a post that literally -- not virtually, but literally-- called progressives "stupid" "fucktards" and worse. It had been up for several hours and I couldn't believe it. In the end, I'm not sure it was ever removed. It was like a fucking FREEPER was posting with the amount of venom it spewed at "progressives." But I guess at least it did not advocate high fructose corm syrup. So we've gt that going for us. :-)

12. Fucking insane, isn't it? Esp. the HFCS apologists, the "no one fat has an eating problem" folk
and the WalMart apologists.

But also, yes, the opposers of gay marriage, the "no one should have a gun even if they live off the grid in northern Idaho with lots of killer animals" assholes, and the war and homeless workcamp supporters. Sometimes I'm like :wtf: around here.

3. there are a few who have humor in gd
but mostly the answer is NO, they can't take a joke. Does make it fun to poke them with a stick, though.

4. GD is for Very Serious Discussion.
That doesn't mean rigorous, necessarily, but it does mean that a joke which would fly in the Lounge is by its nature sandbagged.

5. So then, one should not go to GD and suggest watching BasilMarceaux.com's
newest video, for example?

11. No sense of humor, and also almost no sense of logically constructed argument
or opinion free of knee-jerk hyperemotionalistic assholery.
