My puppy just broke my heart...
Today I took the dogs out into the back so they could go to the bathroom before we went to bed.

The neighbor, the one who we got Brownie from, was talking to someone in her house. She didn't want Brownie. She was just going to give her to anyone so she wouldn't have to take care of her anymore (she said she didn't have time for the dog or for the 2 birds she gave to the other neighbor). We said we would take her and give her a loving home.

Neighbor on the other side said she was glad we took the dog because the kids were hitting her a lot and just letting her run in the street.

Brownie heard her talking and tried to go to the house. When she reached the end of the chain she started crying and trying harder to get back to her old family. And it breaks my heart.

We've shown her more love in 2 weeks than the entire time she was with them, but she still loves them no matter how they treated her.

Dogs are way more forgiving than I would be. Dogs are just better people than some humans.

1. "Dogs are just better people than some humans." Ain't that the truth!

2. That is heartbreaking. However, I think with some time Brownie
will be a member of your family and be very happy. It's best that she's with you considering how the neighbors treated her. You did a great thing;just continue to give her love like I know you will. That kindness will endear her to you and she'll be as happy as ever. You're a sweetheart for taking her considering how they felt.

She'll forget
The first owners of two of my dogs have come to see them, and my dogs just give them the cold shoulder. Well one barks at him just like he does at everyone else.

Maybe he just misses the freedom of running in the streets and not so much the humans.

I know you aren't meaning it this way, but it made me cringe to read that phrasing, like a good person would want to return to someone who is abusing them.

There might be something in the dog's instincts that will make people understand why abused partners don't just leave. Habit, emotional attachments, the only life they know. That doesn't change in two weeks. Thank you for putting in the effort to rescue the dog.

7. No, that's not how I meant it...
I mean dogs are willing to forgive any transgression against them. People will hold onto the pettiest grudge for years and years, sometimes to their dying day, instead of just forgiving and moving on. We could learn a lot from a dog.

8. Don't worry.
She'll eventually forget about her time with them and settle in with you and yours. It's only been a few weeks...
