Really? I can buy an $89 Roku, pay Netflix $8.99 mo, and kiss Dish Network goodbye?

$9mo instead of $59mo, and, with the over the air HD local channels, I pretty much get what Dish gave me (no premium channels) for about a sixth the price?

What's the catch?

1. You can't watch ALL movies on Roku. But there's a large selection you can.

My mother gets the Netflix for $18 monthly and can check out 3 movies at a time through the mail. They ship pretty fast too. The instant movies online has no limit and I watch those on my Roku in a different room. So both of us watch a lot of movies for $18 a month.

2. I probably use my roku more then the cable

I love the thing so much that I got a second one for the bedroom.

3. Yes - just ditched DrekTV for this setup.

But do yourself a favor - go with the Roku HD or HD-XR if you want hi def. The XR has 802.11n wireless and a (currently) mystery USB port. Hopefully the mystery USB port will become useful in the near future through an official firmware update or a hack.

4. I'm looking into it myself

Don't have cable, but do have Netflix. Over 17,000 movies to watch for free. And I watch a lot of movies on my laptop.

5. It pretty much rocks. Whatever you can't watch instantly you can always put in your queue

and they'll send you the disk. Although we've had the same disks for months because there is so much to watch instantly. We got rid of cable many years ago because we hate Comcast but still really missed it. We actually almost considered signing up with evil Comcast again (shudder) because I rationalized that "well, at least I work at home now so I wouldn't have to lose multiple vacation days waiting for technicians to show up." Such a ringing endorsement, huh? But then, just in time, we discovered Roku and now I don't miss cable at all.

I can't recommend it enough, so far there doesn't seem to be any catch. Although, unless they changed their policy you do have to sign up for a more expensive netflix account. You can't do the cheapest one. Still it's like $18 a month.

6. It's only a couple bucks more than the base plan

I think we pay either $7.99 or $8.99. You get one movie at a time. But the turnaround is amazing. Get a movie on Monday. Watch it that night and return it on Tuesday. You get get the next movie on Thursday.

7. Cool. They must have changed the policy. When we signed up you had to do

2 at a time, unlimited. We used to be 2 at a time, 4 total per month. In any case, it's a great deal and a great service. I've loved Netflix since we signed up many years ago. Now Roku makes it even better. We have the Roku on one tv, a PS3 on one tv and a wii on the third tv. So all of them can stream Netflix instantly. And then of course our laptops.
