156. But is that better than Pecker Tech?
One of the minor state schools in Texas is Lamar University of Beaumont.
The colleges have gotten upgraded into universities.

Lamar used to be known as Lamar Tech and being in the Piney Woods of East Texas, their mascot is the Woodpecker.

Thus the nickname Pecker Tech.

A guy who went to school in South Carolina told me about the Trojans playing the Gamecocks.

I can just imagine the play-by-play on that one!

in Brookland, suburban Washington DC.

Double B.A. Political Theory & Communications, minor in English (unofficially Creative Writing)

This is the most recognizable landmark at CUA. It's not actually on campus.

This is Gibbons Hall dormitory, a early 19th century castle. It's the most desired dorm on campus despite not having AC, effective heating or water or working windows. Every window in the place is drafty though. I lived here two years.

starting a MBA in NPO management at Marylhurst College online this upcoming winter.

Concerts, dope, cheap apple wine, sunburn, I remember them well.

er, well, I remember them sorta.

Yeah, the new logo looks more like a flatulent warthog than the letter "W". And "Warriors" is the name of half the high school teams in the country.

I didn't know you used to live around here. Our family moved to Connecticut in '66 for all of two years and then moved back (Shell moved their HQ to NYC, and then changed their minds and moved it back to Houston.) In the mid-90s I played midnight-frisbee-golf with friends on the main UH campus, too :)

How as UH back then?

165. UH was good. I had fun down there.
Edited on Wed Aug-04-10 11:13 PM by Blue_In_AK
I started the same year that UH integrated its athletic teams so was there when the great Elvin Hayes, who became a friend of mine, was playing basketball. That was all pretty exciting. I had a lot of good commie hippie friends my senior year ... lucky I didn't get into the partying until 1967 or I probably wouldn't have graduated. :hippie: We had some serious good times.

My family moved to Pasadena from Colorado in 1963 when I was a sophomore in high school when my dad was hired as a contract negotiator at NASA on the Apollo projects. I never really cared for Texas much, so I left Houston in 1968 after graduation from college, moved back to Colorado for a year, then to San Francisco/Marin County and finally to Alaska in 1975.

154. Trinity University, San Antonio.
Went to four schools, graduated from three.

Houston Community College, Associate of Applied Science (Voc. Ed.); court reporting. I was the VERY FIRST graduate of their court reporting program. 1977.

Trinity University, San Antonio, B.A. Biology 1979
Presbyterian, excellent liberal arts school. At the time they didn't offer a BS in biology, that's how liberal arts they are. Full of bored rich kids.

University of Houston (giant state school) - 2 yrs. Commuter school, lived in high rise dorm.

South Texas College of Law, Juris Doctor. 1985 Worked full time at the courthouse and went to night school because I was crazy and thought normal people did that.

Free standing private law school.
The school was started at the Downtown Houston YMCA, back in the 1920s, with South Texas Jr. College as a feeder school into the law school. This was back when you only had to have 60 semester hours of college to go to law school (which is between 84-90 semester hours of hell), and they awarded an LL.B. (Bachelor of Laws). Then they changed it to requiring a Bachelor's degree for admission, sometime in the 60s, and changed the degree to a doctorate. South Texas Jr. College was eaten by the University of Houston. When my dad went to South Texas on the GI Bill, after World War II, you only needed 60 hours of college credit to go there, but the law school requirements were pretty much the same.

And the next 15 years after law school, until my parents died was a constant round of "Why can't you get a job? You've got a damn good education and we paid for most of it". My answer, "I have no idea". While the PTB were telling us we were overqualified. Fortunately I went on the pay as you go plan and didn't owe any student debt. Although I can only think of one job the JD got me (a temp job for a whole three months working a database of gas leases -- I could barely stand it) and NONE the BA got me.

They make jokes about taking student loan payments of out peoples' social security payments. It really does happen. My hubby has student loan payments taken out of HIS social security, because he went back to school after a BS/MS in Physics/Math b/c he thought it would make him more employable and of course it did NOTHING. He didn't learn a damn thing he didn't already know.

:banghead:

Between the two of us we have six degrees and our parents just thought we were lazy because we couldn't find jobs.
