Has anyone been to Charleston, SC? Going for the weekend and
would like the don't miss things to do.

Ft. Sumter is already on the list.

Thanks in advance.

1. The Battery. Seafood at Shem Creek (Mt. Pleasant).
Unfortunately, you aren't visiting at the ideal time, because Charleston is a supremely walkable city, but July/August is not the time for walking it. If the weekend includes the early part of Saturday, try to make it to the Farmers Market in Marion Square: http://www.charlestonarts.sc/about-cultural-affairs-charleston/festivals-and-special-events/charleston-farmers-market
It's not the usual farmers market.

Be sure to drive over the new Cooper River Bridge. If you have a high tolerance for heat, walking over it ought to be a wonderful experience (though I admit I haven't tried it yet).

A terrific (if somewhat remote) restaurant is Fat Hen http://www.thefathen.com/index.html

If the heat just overwhelms you, beaches at Sullivan's Island, Isle of Palms and Folly Beach are available, though people tell me that public parking is at a premium. I seem to recall that it's most available at IoP, which is also the handiest in terms of freeway access.

2. Thanks Bossy Monkey.
I know the heat will be a problem. Thanks again.

The Fat Hen looks good. I like their reservation policy. Only reserving half the tables and the rest for walk-ins.

7. A couple of hopefully can't miss restaurants...
Jestine's Kitchen http://www.roadfood.com/Restaurant/Review/346-346/jestines-kitchen I've been there, but it was years back and I don't remember it. Lots of people like it, though.
Gullah Cuisine http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/61/660455/restaurant/Charleston/Gullah-Cuisine-Mt-Pleasant I haven't been. But if you're visiting the Lowcountry, this is one of the unique attractions. The reviews at the link are a bit manic depressive; seem to indicate that Sunday brunch buffet is the best bet.

8. about Jestine's
I've tried to eat there several times, but even at odd times like mid-morning or afternoon there is a line outside waiting to be seated.
Charleston is one place you want to be an SOB. It stands for South of Broad, the street that separates the rich from the very rich. There is a restaurant on Bay Street called Slightly North of Broad, or SNOB. Very good food.

3. I see you're from Florida
So I guess you're used to the heat, but it is brutal this time of year. I would recommend a carriage ride. They cost about $20, last about an hour, and will show you up close the older parts of the city with a knowledgeable guide. Also, try one of the roof top bars near sunset and get a great view of the city. Enjoy your trip; Charleston is the cultural saving grace of SC, a very liberal outpost in a right wing sewer of a state.

5. After a day of seeing the sites, 'The Gryphon' is a great pub for
a couple pints and some good grub.
