What Vitamins or Supplements do you take regularly?
Do you ever wonder if it's worth the expense?

I'm spending at least $25 a month on whole food multi-vitamins and fish oil supplements, as does my wife. Maybe if I spent that money on credit card debt instead of faith pills, I'd have less stress and live longer too.

Hmmm.

5. 50,000 units of vitamin D
Edited on Tue Jul-27-10 06:30 PM by Minimus
once a week. I only take it because it is prescribed by my doctor. Also have taken prescribed iron, folic acid, and recieved B-12 injections in the past.

I am not a big believer so I do not buy any OTC vitamin supplements.

6. If your lipids are high, your doctor can prescribe Fish Oil
Not all insurance co's will pay, but many will.

As far as the other stuff? I hate to sound like 'Aunt Haggie' but... Supplements can do alot of good or harm. You've really got to read up on the stuff and consult your doctor. Many people don't take them as seriously as they should. And they can interact with any meds you may be taking.

But if you have the right info, you can taylor your supplements to your own specific needs, thus cutting out stuff you don't. Believe me, it's worth the try. :-)

11. I take a pretty standard multivitamin/multimineral
men's formula.

Aside from that, I take fish oil prescribed by my doctor and prescription levels of niacin (vitamin B3) - both for low HDL and high triglycerides.

Don't know if the multivitamin does much, but I have a somewhat limited diet and my dietitian recommends it.

15. None. I try to eat right and hope that is enough.
Don't know that I even believe that most of the supplements are effective. (I know, at my age I should be taking something.)

But years ago, I always did a multi-vitamin daily, used kid's vitamins because they were so much cheaper (or when on sale more often), and they had the same things in them as the adult vitamins. Didn't hurt me. I don't think.
