East Coast Vancouver Island
I wasn't getting much action on the beach tonight so I grabbed my camera. The panorama kind of sucks (on far right you are looking approx towards Vancouver city over the Strait of Georgia)

Fishing for pinks (those dots in the water are fly fishermen on the other side of the estuary)

Those two humps in the second picture are probably Denman and Hornby Island

3. I was wondering, you don't often see bathers there
Tis a bit chilly, even in summer.

I used to sail all around that area. My favourite Island was thetis, as there's nothing on it except a pub! I thought it was great that everyone could just sail around the area and pull into a pub.

4. It actually can be super warm, depending on tide and time of day
Sometimes you can wade out a near a quarter of a mile in warm water (like at Parksville's beach). If the tide is low, that water sits there and heats up, without too much of a tide. I waded out at 4 in the morning in shorts and sandals and lived to tell about it.

East coast is so mellow...its like a lake sometimes because its so protected

5. My dear Oregone!
These are very nice...

And I have been near there...

My husband and I visited the island a number of years ago...and I took a number of pictures on the ferry ride that took us to the city of Vancouver.

Here's a quick picture I just took, to show you what I saw so many years ago...It is such a beautiful area!

7. Thanks!
It's a lot prettier in person...

I just used my little point and shoot camera w/flash, trying to minimize shadows and reflections and what not!

Your pictures do NOT look like you took them with a cheap camera!

:hi:

9. I love that light....
There's something ineffable about calm, western ocean sunsets. Some of my best memories are of that same light at sunset in Baja California on the Sea of Cortez near La Paz. On calm evenings the sea barely moves. That pink-orange light fills the sky and reflects from the calm water. Without islands to define it, the horizon just disappears into glowing atmosphere. It's magical.

Thanks so much for reminding me of it. BTW, I think the pano rocks. Maybe some blending problems in that dark patch to the left of the log, but it's still a lovely and evocative picture.

11. The light changes as the camera panned southward
That changes the lighting in the entire frame. So it makes it tough to blend without a bit of care.

Ill try and take some pictures when Im not shivering from standing in the water for an hour or two. Sometimes its warm, but last night wasn't one of those times.
