"The term "Big Uglies" is a slang name given to human beings in Harry Turtledove's alternative history series, Worldwar, by the alien beings called the Race. The name derives from the fact that the Race themselves are no larger than a human child. Thus, human beings being naturally ugly to one of alien origin, the name "Big Ugly" stuck. Conversely, humanity came to call the Race "Lizards" for their chameleon-like appearance."
