4. Ever heard THE COMPLETE LAST WALTZ?
So much better, They took a lot of the music out of the original official release (and by music I mean the music the people are playing) and put the songs in the correct order and added the songs that were not on the original official release. It is like a whole new thing. About 20 times better. The sound is fuller, you can hear all of the players and the songs that were cut are incredible.

BTW< I was at the Last Waltz and as much as I love the album and the movie, it is almost like a different event than the one I attended.

6. Their live records with Dylan are pretty good also.
Before the Flood and Dylan Live 1966, The 'Royal Albert Hall' Concert.

7. I have Rock Of Ages + the full "Last Waltz," BUT...
...Rock of Ages doesn't have "It Makes No Difference"

...Last Waltz doesn't have "The Genetic Method / Chest Fever"

These two tracks...these two specific live performances...are essentials in the "Best of The Band," so the answer to your poll is BOTH.

:toast:

8. Rock of Ages....plus an opinion about the Last Waltz movie
Robbie and Scorcese were big buds then, and IMHO, the movie overplays the attraction and ability of Robertson. He was not a key vocalist and his guitar playing, though well matched to the band, is not technically noteworthy. In the context of the time there was great hype of Robertson being the new Star and moving into films. All was unfulfilled. IMHO, again, Levon and Rick carried the weight, with much support from Richard. Robbie just doesn't do it.

9. Read the Bill Graham book....
He really doesn't like Robbie at all. His tory is great about the LW and all the attendant hoopla and Scorsese and Dylan etc....

13. Scorese's direction surely left a lot to be desired.
However, I think you're unintentionally repeating one of his mistakes by apparently relegating Richard and the unmentioned Garth to supporting roles, similar to the way Scorsese hardly gave them any camera time. Did Manuel even get a closeup during "I Shall Be Released'? Criminal, if not.

As for Robertson's playing, I wasn't impressed with what I saw that night. However, at his best, he can show excellent feel, tone, and even technical ability.
